College Theme

screenshotCollege Theme is the latest classic free WordPress theme by Performancing. The theme is a simple, straightforward two-column theme, with the sidebar situated to the left and the main content column at the right.

College Theme is easy on the eyes, featuring soft shades and hues of blue. The rounded corners add to the visual appeal–each box on the sidebar, footer and main content have rounded corners for a softer feel. The sidebar boxes come in three gradients: dark, medium and light, to help differentiate the list content.

College Theme also has a dynamic Hemingway-style footer with footer columns that can accommodate lists. These columns are housed in stowaway tabs, so visual clutter is eliminated or at least hidden. A customizable link header is also present, to help readers navigate through the site.

The theme requires the Most Commented, Recent Comments and Recent Posts plugins by mtdewvirus.com, which are included in the ZIP file for download.

‘Tis The Season Theme

'Tis The Season Theme for WordPress preview imageThe holiday season is here! And we at Performancing would like to share in the holiday spirit (whether Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other holiday celebrations we have this time of year) by releasing the ‘Tis the Season theme for WordPress.

‘Tis the Season uses the popular red-and-green color scheme that is very much in tune with the holiday seasons. The theme uses a fixed-width layout with a basic two-column structure featuring well-proportioned column widths. Again, here we use the rule of thirds popular among those well-versed in the arts, as with many other Performancing Themes for WordPress releases.

The theme is widgets-ready, so you won’t have to worry about changing sidebar content when switching to and from the theme (like after the holidays, for instance). ‘Tis the season is light on the eyes and also light on the bandwidth, with minimal use of graphics (mostly the header image). The minimalistic look adds to the simplicity, and this lets your readers focus on reading your content. Still, if you want to insert ads or banners, the main column and the sidebar are wide enough to accommodate popular banner sizes.

Redbook Theme

Redbook theme for WordPress preview imageThe latest classic Performancing theme for WordPress, Redbook represents balance, structure and symmetry.

Created in collaboration with Brian Gardner, Redbook lives up to its name by incorporating what we think to be salient aspects of a physical book with the modern feel of a sophisticated website (hence “red book”). Viewing a blog powered by the Redbook WordPress theme, one would feel as if unfolding an actual hard-bound book, with the left and right sidebars “folding” out, and red and grey liners reminiscent of a book’s cover and leaves.

Redbook is a three-column theme with a sidebar on each side. The main column is mainly white-on-black, which is excellent for readability and adds to that book-like feel. The presentation of the sidebars is organized, with dark grey lines that separate each major heading. This theme is ideal for professional or personal bloggers who wish to convey a sense of organization and structure.

Estranged Theme

Estranged Theme for WordPress preview imageEstranged is the latest classic Performancing theme for WordPress that reflects a no-nonsense, straightforward look. The theme was developed in collaboration with designer Thord Daniel Hedengren of BloggerTalks fame. Thord has worked on developing and/or overhauling several other Splashpress Media blogs and services, such as the Eatonweb Blog Directory, Jack of All Blogs, Blog Network Watch, Blogger Jobs, and well as Audival, and did some improvements to the Blog Herald look.

Estranged is a two-column theme that features large, standout headers, and easy-to read body and link text. The color scheme involves subtle shades of grey and red, with a bit of orange, and these add to that simple yet eye-catching look. The proportions of the columns and the headers are just right, making ample use of the rule of thirds popular among those in the visual arts. Contrast is just right–having adequate readability, but not at the cost of being too much of a glare. The theme also makes adequate use of white space, so the blog doesn’t look cramped.

Estranged is suitable for both personal and professional bloggers who prefer a clean looking theme with enough space for the essentials. The right sidebar is wide enough to accommodate square ad space (text links or images) up to 250 pixels in width. This is great for bloggers who would rather not stuff in too much information, but would rather present essential information in blocks. This is due to the fact that there is only one sidebar, and that the footer does not support lists or longer content than the copyright statement.

News Theme

News Theme for WordPress preview imageThe News Theme is one more classic Performancing WordPress theme. The theme intends to mimic the look and feel of a print magazine or newspaper, with paper-like upper and lower edges, which is quite suitable for blogs that want to put forth a newspaper-y type of image (aided by the display of the current date on the masthead).

The color scheme uses subtle shades of grey and blue, with the sidebar standing out with orange tints.

News Theme is a two-column theme with a horizontal navigation bar at the header, and space for details and links at the footer. This gives the site a clean look and feel, with a wide fixed-width main body and a sidebar wide enough to accommodate long link text or banners. The space on the header can also be used for horizontal banners.
