  4. The hate is due to the multitude of similar offerings. It isn’t against just Intense Debate but all of them. Maybe if there was just one comment system that EVERY blog was using, it wouldn’t be an issue. In my mind, such things only make sense if there are one, or none. Reminds me of the day when I visited half a dozen blogs that required registration to post. Now they just require registration to track comments and whatever other features they provide. I don’t think it is worth the extra overhead on blogs. Any remote request that is unnecessary seems a little strange to me, when you have alternatives.

    There was some good discussion this episode, and I will be subscribing. I’ve known about Perfcast for awhile now, but just got around to listening today. (Google Blogsearch picked up on the link to my article, and it gave my the required nudge to get me to listen.)

    Why the IntenseDebate hate, Dave? I see where you’re coming from with the Google Reader comments. (I don’t like that idea at all.) But IntenseDebate is a whole different thing. True, ID keepa a copy of your comments and helpa people keep track of them, but they’re not in any way taking them away from your blog. The comments sync back and forth, and are displayed primarily on the blog. I don’t think you can even leave a comment without visiting the original post. You don’t need an IntenseDebate account to leave a comment either, the comment form functions exactly as a “normal” comment form.
