Performancing for Firefox 1.3.5 released!

Hello everyone, I’m pleased to announce the release of
Performancing for Firefox 1.3.5.

Not to long ago we talked about the Roadmap for the 1.4 release, and what we have in store. However with recent changes in the Blogger.com service, we thought it would be a good idea to have an intermediate release with bugfixes and better Blogger.com support. So here we are with 1.3.5!

Additions and Fixes:

1) Better Spell-check support in Firefox 2.0. Both Rich and normal editing now have spell-check, along with bug fixes and you can now switch easily between different languages provided you have more
than one dictionary installed

2) Fixed Blogger support. This release now works with both normal and Beta blogger accounts.

3) Added Label (tag) support to blogger. Note this only works with Blogger Beta accounts at this moment. You can add labels to your post via the ‘Categs’ tab. You will see a new button called “Add Category” at the bottom where you can add posts to your account. You can also see what your history items have and change their categories.

4) Improved Account manager. Better auto-detect and added ability to select what blogs
 you want added to your list. i.e. if you have more than on blog under
 the same API and username, before PFF would add them all, now you can
 de-select (while holding down the ctrl key) the ones you don’t want to add.

5) Fixed a Master Password issue. If you have a master password set in Firefox, PFF should now only ask you for your password once.

6) Draft support for Blogger

7) Window Icon for windows and Linux (when opening PFF in a window).

8) Prevent duplicate tag and ‘powered by …’ insertion in posts.

9) Experimental newMediaObject image and file uploading. For blog systems that support image uploads (MT, wordpress, Drupal, etc.) You can now try the ‘Upload Via API’ button in the image uploading window. Please note this is experimental, if you have issues or it works for you, please let us know so we can improve it.

10) MacOSX Rich Edit view corruption fixed. The cursor should no longer get lost in long posts on MacOSX

Know Issues:

1) Bookmarking to delicious on blogger accounts only works with blogger beta for the time being.
2) Embedding Flash and other Media in a blogger post doesn’t always work. I’ve written an article on on how to embed videos, etc. in blogger here.
3) Long titles in Blogger posts get cut off in history mode. For some reason the history atom feeds we get from blogger only allow an X amount (50 chars I think). So if you edit a post with a long title in PFF, PFF will only load the first 50 chars of it. To fix this for now until Blogger changes this on their side is to copy your original long title and paste it back into pff for post you are editing. This is a know issue by the Blogger devs and should be fixed soon without any needed changes to PFF.

Thank you all who helped us test it in the multiple beta releases, and a thank you to the Blogger team at Google for the great improvements in the latest API and being very responsive to our questions.

  8. When closing the right sidebar, the text in the main area doesn’t re-wrap to the outer edge. Or at least only a few lines of a long post might rewrap appropriately to that outer edge but the rest of the lines will look as though the sidebar is still open. So what’s the point of closing that right side bar?
    My WordPress blog not open in FF 🙁

  9. Posting flash content with performancing firefox 1.3.5 works as the instructions have stated. You should upload using “Source Editing” view and not the Live preview or Rich (Normal) editing as switching views would sometimes take out the necessary closing tags.

    Here lies the problem: Say my first post contained flash content, it will successfully post. When I create a new post with absolutely no flash content, the error warning message regarding closing tags appear as if I am trying to upload a post with that kind of content. Checking under history (to view my 1st post with blog content), the closing tags are gone. This is all done using the “Source Editing” view.

    Seems like I can’t post anything AFTER the post with flash content. Any help? Suggestions?\

    here’s my blog by the way: xzero012 See the flash (picture gallery)? I’ve uploaded that using performancing firefox. I can’t post anything anymore after putting that using performancing firefox.

  13. This is the message I receive trying to add my Blogger blogs. (OLD Blogger account, not beta)

    When I installed last version, I lost my Blogger blog. So, I erased them and when trying to add them, one by one (Where did the past option go? I mean: giving Blogger login and pwd in previous versions appeared all your blogs and you just had to click desired blog to be edit with PFF) I get this error.

    Is this PFF only working with Blogger Beta?

  14. Just wanted to thank you for the image upload function! The API upload worked beautifully with my wordpress blog, and is a fantastic improvement! I can now add the width, height, alignment and alt/title tags in the code before publishing and only need to log into my wordpress installation to add an excerpt and icon image.
    I also enjoyed the added “performancingtags” class to Technorati links, up till now I’ve manually added a class to those links and it’s great not to have to do that anymore!

  16. Hmmm, seems it looked like I was logged into the blog (PFF) but really wasn’t. After shutting down FF2, restarting and logging back into my blog with PFF the image upload worked just fine with the url appearing in the url field just the way it was supposed to.

    Good job all…just what I was waiting for and I’m sure many others were as well. I’ll be sure to beat on it…er…test the function thoroughly.

    Nice getting the new version out. I was actually surprised to see it when I brought up Firefox this am and of course I just had to try the “upload via API” button for uploading images to my WordPress.com blog.

    It seemed to upload to WordPress.com ok but there seems to be no way to insert the image into the post after it’s uploaded. Clicking the “Insert image” button after the file is selected asks for a URL to the image and clicking the “upload via API” button uploads the image and states the upload was successful but it doesn’t appear in the post or the history and unfortunately, I have no idea where WordPress.com stores the images. The path to my past images seems to change with the date (month/day) and the posts made with Windows Live Writer puts images into it’s own unique path different from the standard WordPress.com path (this function was requested by bloggers who have their blog self hosted in order to keep there root directory uncluttered apparently).

    Am I perhaps missing something here such as an “upload and insert” option or a setting I haven’t found? I may be missing something right under my nose and I realize it’s experimental yet.

    As for the sidebar, yes, I have thought about that, and will look into making a theme for pff that would make the sidebar usable.

    I would have sent this via your contact page but it’s broken. If I try to use it to send a note, I get an “unknown command” error or even though I’m submitting from my email address ([email protected]) it says “[email protected]” is unknown address (??????)

    Anyway, here is some feedback on Performancing running on Firefox 1.5.0.8 on Mac OS 10.4.8.

    Pros: The basic text editor seems to work well. In fact, you seem to have built one of the few text editors that can really do indented bulleted lists very well. Congrats on that.

    Bugs and problems:

    – posting to my Blogware account is horrible. It either lets me push the “publish” button and then does nothing at all. Or it posts and then gives me both the closing message (something like hit OK to clear and cancel to leave your text here) BUT the browser gives an error on top of that that says “there is no XML RPC API at this address) or something similar and it has an OK button. Hitting that OK also hits the CANCEL button underneath, dropping me back at the raw text in the text editor. Here’s the best/worst part. It actually HAS posted the post at my blogware account but without any of the checked categories. So then I have to go into Blogware, open up the post, click on the categories I want and resave it. Needless to say, this is all very frustrating.

    Feature request:

    – have you thought of making it optional to have the whole editor stacked on the left/right side of the broswer for those of us who have wide screens? I have three monitors: my Macbook 13, my Dell 20″ wide, and my Dell 24” wide. In all cases, it would be far more useful to me to have your text-editing panel on the right hand side of my browser window rather than at the bottom of the window. Ideally it would have a slideable/grabbable pane so that I could set it to whatever width I want, leaving me the rest of the window for the browser contents.
