Science Machine: A Source of Inspiration

Submitted by James Mowery on May 24, 2008 - 9:19am in

Science Machine

I am willing to bet that Chad Pugh, creator of "Science Machine," did not think that his 40 hours of work would get such an intense reaction of awe and appreciation after publishing it to Vimeo nearly a month ago. Who knows what he was thinking. One thing is now certain though—his hard effort and dedication has inspired many of those that have watched it. Yes, it has probably been on the front page of Digg, but it is still worth watching again. It might not be life changing for any of you, but it really has given me a boost in motivation as of late—perhaps it will do the same for you. Check it out after the break.

Some Inspirational Quotes To Keep Us Motivated

Submitted by James Mowery on April 6, 2008 - 11:13pm in

When I have a down day, I find that it is not because I am lazy or tired, but there is a lack of inspiration and motivation. I attempt to feed myself from others that have done great things before me -- those that have been willing to give up the normal life to achieve greatness. I won't lie, I hope to achieve greatness as well in the future; we all do. But, it is up to each one of us to find things that motivate and inspire our minds, and these following quotes are a few of my favorites (of many others) from some great people in the past.

"A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit."—Richard Bach

"Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted."—Italian Proverb

"He who begins many things finishes but few."—Italian Proverb

"It's a funny thing about life. If you refuse to settle for anything less than the best, that's what it will give you."—W. Somerset Maugham

"A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions."—Confucius

"If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people."—Confucius

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."—Thomas Edison

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."—Albert Einstein

"Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busy work. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow!"—Og Mandino

Motivation: Try to give it the extra push

Submitted by Markus Merz on January 21, 2008 - 10:02am in

Do you know that 'Monday' problem?
How often is it Thursday or Wednesday until you get your things done?

I set my alarm clock one hour earlier on those days.

Freelance workers will know the effect of doing everything but work! To avoid getting things done (a.k.a. work) the funniest things get done but work.

The following comic starred at me this morning after I checked my Facebook homepage for the latest activities. I just had a short look at my profile page to check for the latest comic strips which is one of the mentioned unnecessary activities if you are trying to start a productive week in an effective manner.

Funny coincidence, isn't it?

I have exams in a week and yet everything else seems more important to me than revision. I am the king of procrastination. I have made three separate trips to the shops today, just for simple things just bread and milk. I have tidied my room, organised my books using a new sorting system, washed some clothes, rearranged my desk twice, ironed some clothes,

How do you motivate yourself when that 'Monday' problem occurs?

 My blogging projects

Submitted by patrick24601 on October 21, 2007 - 4:49am in

Welcome to my first blog post.

I'd be interested in any comments on the current projects I have going.

The first is a blog about motivation, finance, and other things I think of when I think of getting people motivated and called to action. It is StopDoingNothing.com.

The 2nd is a temporary blog at weloveourhouse.com. It is for the Parade of Homes - an annual real estate event we have in Oklahoma City running 10/20 - 10/28. It in involves updates and YouTube videos on a house that we are building.

Looking forward to your feedback.

 Motivation and Blogging

Submitted by Ahmed Bilal on August 17, 2007 - 5:39am in

It's 2am in the morning, you're tired and you can't even look at your blog lest you find something else wrong with it. You give up and go to bed, only to find out that you can't sleep because sleeping over it isn't going to make things better - the problems will still be there tomorrow morning.

So you trudge back to your laptop and get down to work, except that you're chatting on IM instead of working - and then someone tells you how cool your blog is, and it dawns on you: You have been too harsh on yourself and your blog, and instead of finding positive solutions and working on them, all you've been doing is focusing on what's wrong and letting that eat you up inside.

Moral of the story: Whenever your blog or your blogging hits a dip (whether it's a drop in motivation or traffic), don't go Postal on your blog and everything that you've worked so hard to build up. Find out the reason why you've spent thousands of hours working on your blog, and why you got started in the first place. And then make sure you talk to the people who regularly read your blog and get their opinion on what they think of it.

Chances are, all you need is a supporting shoulder when you're down, and nothing works better than your own readers telling you that your blog rocks and that you shouldn't give up.

Thank you, dear reader :)
