Trying Out Dee's Method For Using SEO Digger

Submitted by Ryan Caldwell on November 26, 2007 - 11:05pm in

Dee recently told us about using SEO Digger to identify strategic SERPS to work on. So I'm going to try his method out in this post.

The domain I'm using his method on is http://www.nursingprograms.com/ (not my own site, but a friends) who asked for some suggestions.

Running that site through SEO Digger, I see the following useful information:

It ranks 6th for the high-volume search term "top nursing schools"

Check the Google SERP here.

It ranks 6th for another high volume search term "lpn salary"

Check the Google SERP here.

Now, Dee recommends bringing 2nd page SERPS to the front page. I'm going to take a slightly different strategy here and recommend that because of the volume that these search terms bring, that they be pushed up into the top 3 spots in the SERPS.

There's one additional SERP not in the top 10 that I'd focus hard on and that is "lpn schools" because of its high volume potential. In fact, I'd recommend some major article development around this term.

After that, I'd probably choose the following phrases to focus on:

nursing preparation review test
colorado nursing schools
illinois nursing schools
florida nursing school
nclex pn
ged practice

Find Great Keywords With SEO Digger

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite SEO tools, SEO Digger.

With this tool, you simply enter in a URL and it will give you the popular keywords that the URL ranks for in the Google top 20. If you become a registered member (it's free), you can do a full search of a domain name.

SEO Digger has over 44 million keywords in their database. The keywords come from Wordtracker and Overture. If your keyword is not in the database, you can send SEO Digger your keywords and they'll add them.

It's not the most accurate tool. Some of the keyword rankings are inaccurate because the search engine results pages (SERPs) are constantly changing. Also, SEO Digger only updates the database every two weeks.

However, this tool gives you a quick overview of where you stand in the SERPs for popular keywords. I like using it to find keywords where I rank on the second page. These keywords are great because it often doesn't take much work to move your site to the first page.
