I'd say I knew a thing or two about the need to monetize a startup. I've learnt the hardway, and watched several projects get canned from not building income streams in concert with development and production. However, reading over at Techcrunch that Splashcast is finally launching, and because im really working hard at finding a way to let people embed podcasts i make on their sites or share them etc, I headed over to have a look --- what greeted me? Shitloads of spammy links designed to get clicks for high paying phrases which have nothing to do with podcasting, vlogging or any oher kind of media creation.
These are the links I see at the bottom of the homepage:
Popular Categories: Medical Equipment | Medical Identification | Medical Clothing | Cheap Airfare | Vacation | Discount Airline Ticket
And where do they lead? To spammy pages full only of click ads, with yet more spammy links leading to yet more spammy pages.
What the fuck is going on here? Are these people insane?
I mean shit, how did this conversation go?
Splashcastguy: Hey, we launch tomorrow, im stoked!
SplashcastMoneyGuy: Yeh, me too, but how are we going to make money?
Splashcastguy: Oh, i got that covered. We thought we'd do a mullenweg, but not actually hide the spammy links, so we wont get slammed for it.
SplashcastMoneyGuy: Neato! And our users will just love it, good job!
Give me strength.
