Want to host your blog somewhere else

I want to know if there is anyway that I can host a wordpress blog somewhere else? Let's say I register a domain (www.abc.com)Is there any way that I can use this address for my blog rather than abc.wordpress.com??

Absolutely possible

Most of us here do this everyday!

1. Register your domain (don't delay or someone will snarf up the name-seriously) - Shouldn't cost more than $7
2. Establish a hosting plan (can be done at the same time of registration - Should cost between $50 - $100
3. Most hosts will include an easy ability to install WordPress on the host (you login to your vdeck or cpanel and push a button and presto! you have a WordPress blog and database setup
4. If they don't, and you aren't experienced with this type of thing or not experienced with FTP - find a different host.
5. If you are experienced with FTP, then again login, setup a MySql database, download the free WordPress software (version 2.2.1 I think is the latest) and then upload it to your folder /public_html/ on your host.
WordPress offers some easy to understand instructions (almost easy - but if you fibbed on number 4, you'll possibly need an experienced friend to help you get unstuck)
6. Load up the files, activate the blog, add some customization for a them and if you already have a something.wordpress.com blog (or a blogger blog or almost any other type) you can import that blog (with wordpress) into your WordPress site and bring all your articles in.

If any of that sounds too tough, ask around and someone can probably help you do all this. Or you can even pay for the service (rates will very depending on your customization needs). For example I usually charge about $400 for a total package type of deal.

This all can be done in a few hours if you have a fast host (fast at setting up accounts), but it can be stretched out to 5-7 days if your host is slow at processing things.

no

Sorry, Brett. I think you misunderstood Biswarup's question. The blog is on the hosted Wordpress.com, but should appear to be self-hosted.

The answer, I believe is yes, but I've never done it since I don't use wordpress.com.

AHhh yes that should be possible too

I'd agree with Raj (about my misunderstanding and the potential for it to work).

I have no idea how to do it however.

Separately, I wonder if Wordpress.com would delete your blog if you owned your own domain, had your blog hosted at wordpress.com and ran advertising in some form or fashion on it. . . .

Thanks for the help Brett &
