Int he quest of finding Scribefire's options, I right-clicked on the icon and went for About. Now the about page fills the plugin screen and I can find no way to close it. So... how do I close the about screen?

Have you tried Scribefire support?
I don't use Scribefire so I can't answer your question, but have you tried the support forum at http://www.scribefire.com/forum/ ? I'm pretty sure that Scribefire has been completely spun off from Performancing so I don't know if anyone will answer your question here.

Gabbahead: Shane is right. Scribefire is supported over at scribefire.com. It's not part of Performancing anymore.
