Folks,
We must admit that we are ‘old school’ SEO’s and we have a specific schedule around here that works fairly well:
Monday: Keyword Research and Analysis
Tuesday: HTML (XML etc.) optimization and compliance
Wednesday: Implementation
Thursday: Link popularity and Building
Friday WAS ‘wild freak out day’ but we had to change it to ‘Web 2.0′ day (we’re not happy about it but what are you gonna do). The idea of viral marketing, social networking, whatever you want to call it was new and we had to dig deep to discover the opportunities. Since we are a young site, we know that the time to experiment is now.
We are building links at a acceptable rate and at first they came from link directories but lately we noticed many from our blogging efforts … feedburner etc. This observation drove us to explore tags in depth. I am not going to completely reveal our analysis but we did notice that there was a way to determine how well certain tags were performing. We have started implementing a tagging specification somewhat similar to our copy/keyword specification and we were amazed at the results.
While there are many artcles out there that are specific about the top performers like Reddit etc. we managed to break down how well tags perform and drafted a structure for DIR tags, CAT tags etc. We do intend to explain it all (as best we can) later but we want to take all the variables into consideration and come up with something verifiable.
We still go about the routine of ‘on the page’ and ‘off the page’ SEO but there is certainly a new twist on the kinds of things we watch for … and Web 2.0 has totally trashed our Friday fun :-(
