The primary challenge we have with linking, is that the sites we are attempting to link with do not know anything about how the web works, let alone linking? A very important paragraph within the link creative must include at least a subtle reference to the importance to links. But as we know all buy decisions are emotional, so just tell the neophyte NOT to believe you/me and answer why did www.youtube.com sell for 1.4+ billion to google. in ONE YEAR!!!!
This brings me to my final point, always talk in terms of numbers, the neophyte needs numbers.
Lastly, link partners need to be picked selectively and each link letter has to be custom written to each site.
Note: selling in person is 1,000 times harder than in person because copywriting is a very valuable craft!
