Tags Question From A Relative Newbie

I am using Wordpress and when I am posting there is no field to enter TAGS. I post on another blogsite called Activerain and they have a posting template that does allow for TAGS. Right now I am posting on both my blog and Activerain. When checking Search Engine results, Activerain is working beautifully. Activerain has thousands of contributors so I understand their high ranking but does the TAG field play into ranking as well?
