If you add a feed to your blog side bar, say the feed for Performancing for example. Will that count toward your search engine rankings?

Just try it. There is no general answer to that.

Oh wait, if your template is in order header, main content, sidebar1, sidebar2 then in general the sidebar content is not so highly ranked. The search engines prefer the top content. But that answer is pretty rough.

It also depends how you add the content. If it is added by javascript then the SEs don't see that content at all as they don't execute JS.
