Promotion: Hangman the widget

Disclaimer: The guy I am talking about is an Internet friend. Probably yours too (Are you using 103bees?). I am in no other way connected to his new project.

Lately we were talking about widgets being the hot website promotion tool for the future. Like perfomancing Metrics or ScribeFire were the free website promotion tools which made p.com such a success. My friend Christoph, the guy behind 103bees: Search Engine Traffic Analysis, has a new website and is trying to get off the ground. Christoph is starting the viral promotion via a nice giveaway for webmasters.

His action is a great example how to start a new service or website.

The site

The rillz.com motto:

Play free online flash games in breaks, in between meetings, during boring classes, at work or whenever you're not supposed to do so. Win attractive prizes like movie DVDs, TV series, concert videos or books!

The promotion

Beside buying some PPC ad campaigns and doing the standard promotion things it is totally natural for his flash game site to develop a giveaway widget which offers a nice flash game.

The example

Hangman the widget

What the game is about: Guess a movie title letter by letter - if a letter is not in the title this means an extra take to "shoot" the movie.

Do you think the size (500 x 330) is a problem?

The network

  • Funny widgets spread like wildfire
  • Everybody in the English culture sphere knows the game hangman
  • He is addressing webmasters which already are his net of trust. Christoph is a guy I trust because I use his service 103bees from the very beginning. So do thousands of others.

Do you think that widget will be a success?

What will your next widget be aimed at?
