Over the last couple of days I've noticed that the "referer" information being displayed on the "Visitors" and "Actions" tabs is really getting swizzled (technical term, I know.) This is particularly true for traffic arriving via search engines. The search terms that are being displayed are clearly not correct in many cases. I began getting search terms that just seem out of place for my site. I decided to go do a comparison with what was being captured by site meter. I compared data for the same ip address on both systems and found that the sitemeter data made sense for my site, but the Performancing data didn't.
For one visitor PMetrics reports the Refer as:
images.google.de boingboing
For the same visitor on Sitemeter:
search.yahoo.com jump rope insanity
Since my site is about Jump Rope it's pretty obvious which report is correct. However, sometimes it is showing up correctly. The other strange thing is that the "Searches" tab seems to be correct. None of the out of place search terms are showing up there.
Is anyone else seeing weird data on their reports like this? Any ideas on what could cause this?
