Your webhost is the backbone of your blog and stability is key. Afterall, your blog is no good if its web server goes down too frequently or loads too slowly. Not to mention the question of whether your server is prepared for the Digg effect or a rush of traffic from StumbleUpon. Everyone has strong opinions about webhosts, both positive and negative. I´ve been hosting my WordPress blog with A Small Orange, Dreamhost, MediaTemple and Mosso. Mosso is my favorite. I´ve not done any serious benchmarking, but my blog feel fastest on Mosso, and their customer support is legendary. MediaTemple is a good number two. Non of them are bad, but A Small Orange and Dreamhost feels a little slower. I would range them like this:
1. Mosso
2. MediaTemple
3. Dreamhost
4. A Small Orange
