Account Manager won't create WordPress 1.5.x account

After watching this thread:

for a week, here is what I've done....

FF1.5
WIN XP Pro sp2

Performancing extension just stops on the page:

Loggin in

Logging in... please wait.

I've deleted and re-installed the performancing extenstion.
I've refreshed the xmlrpc.php (being certain it was from the correct WP version)
I've tried it on two different domains and different (Pre 2.0)versions of WP.

The two domains are:
farmbox.com/xmlrpc.php and
homeatlastfarms.com/xmlrpc.php

Hitting that file with browser produces

Bad Response From Server

Both domains share hosting space, so could very well be server problem.

Edited to add: xmlrpc.php file access properties are 644.

Wordpress workaround?
