The lates issue of the CNN edition Business 2.0 featured a cover story called Blogging for Big Bucks. You can view the online version of the article on the CNN Money website. It's mostly the same minus the piece 7 Habits of Highly Effective Bloggers which I'm going to post here.

  • Focus intently on a
    narrow niche
, ideally one whose audience has a predilection for high-margin
products. That will appeal to advertisers.
  • Set up your blog so
that each post gets its own permanent URL
, or permalink, and its heading becomes
part of its permalink and page title. Write descriptive, keyword-heave headings,
and be sure the homepage and all archives have links on every
    page.
  • Think of your blog
    as database
, not a newspaper-like collection of dispatches. your archived posts
should be easy to find through Google and Technorati, so cite authors and
publications by name, and use tags, categories, and keywords
    consistently.
  • Blog frequently and
    regularly
    - if possible, at least half a dozen posts every weekday before
lunchtime, when many readers take a break from work and check out the
    blogosphere.
  • Use striking images
    in your posts
. They liven up the page and attract readers, and if you use
captions, you'll gain additional traffic by making it easy for Google Image
Search and other visual search engines to index your
    illustrations.
  • Enable comments and
    interact with readers
; cultivate your audience - that's what advertisers will be
    paying you for.
  • Make friends with
    other bloggers
, online and off. Link to their posts and they'll return the
favor. Other blgos may well send you most of your traffic.

bold doesn't work

I used bold button in Performancing but the <b>tag is not included in your HTML filter.

half a dozen posts before lunch

This is a hard thing to do, and do well.

I've been trying to get to the point where I'm posting 3-4 articles per day on 2 blogs.

I'm getting closer and I am seeing some positive results for my efforts.

A half dozen seems tough right now, but I think I'll get there.

However, this goal might lend itself to Markus Merz's concept of Tribal trends in professional Blogging

It may be difficult for one person to post 6 messages per day before lunch. However, 7 people working on a rotating business publishing 6 articles per day before lunch on 2-4 blogs would be possible. Round it up to 10 people, each writing 3-4 articles per day, 4-5 days per week, and you have a half dozen blogs with a lot of potential! (Markus am I applying your concept correctly? Still trying to find the right approach and application without having to setup an LLC)

I don't think posting before

I don't think posting before lunch means actually writing before lunch - you can do it the night before. I suppose you can use the scheduling feature, right a few posts when you have time and then schedule them to published with some interval.

I think a mix is better, we

I think a mix is better, we get good results here at performancing by alternating. For example my posts have been thousands of words but it means I post fewer and in some cases it can be a lot of effort for little return BUT in general* it is the more comprehensive posts that are remembered and linked to.

*My post on my photography blog that was farked was ironically a straight "this is cool look at this" link post with not very much thought put into it. YMMV.

The quantity depends on your

The quantity depends on your style and if you have blog readers or news readers.

A blog reader is totally satisfied if getting small snippets with follow-up links but a news reader wants to get a more complete picture of the whole topic.

As Chris said the more complete articles will run better in the long run.

Blog articles, news overview, series on a topic, only pictures or video, different topics, ...

I am also running one blog with affiliate articles where by now every article has the same subject and the same form. Money wise this blog is the most successful until now but it is no real fun.

Mix it!

I think my highest post rate

I think my highest post rate was 9.0 per day during a three week period one time but it was mainly "look at this stuff" and funny videos. I would far rather have good quality content than 190 meaningless posts. However getting search engine visitors and google juice means that you do have to post alot.

It is a double edge sword. Quality over Quantity. You want people to read your best stuff but there are more than likely to find you through the tail end of (god did I just use a buzz word heh) search engine results than on your killer posts IMO.
