Did you prepare your blog for the holiday season?

People want to buy now!

Summer is over and readers are using the Internet like crazy. With the upcoming Christmas season the motivation to look for interesting items, ideas and gadgets is getting stronger every day!

  • The strongest buying season of the year is happening the next 30 days. It's Christmas time and jingle bells are all around.
  • People are hurrying to get nice Christmas gifts for family, friends and co-workers.

Christmas time is definitely one of the most important repeating events!

Five To-Dos to be prepared for Christmas

Are there blog niches where the Christmas season has no place?
Well, maybe some but not too many.

  1. Look for Christmas related keywords. Use the article Onpage SEO: 7 Tips That Are Easy to Implement as an inspiration.
  2. It is a good time to double check your ad placement AND articles to optimize CTR. Btw: This is a typical summer task but a reminder is worth the words right now. Put some extra effort into existing Christmas related articles to bring them up to date.
  3. Dive into all affiliate programs to look for Christmas season extras. Many affiliates are having contests now or have started extra X-Mas programs. Make sure to exchange boring all year ads against affiliate ads created for Christmas time.
  4. Go and look for products. It is the right time of the year to spend a lot of time at i.e. Amazon to find single products which will sell during the Christmas season. If you planned to create your own online shop; this is the time.
  5. Develop Christmas season article ideas which are fast to realize. Develop an extra Christmas article structure to make those articles stand out from your standard article stream.

What to write about?

  • Product reviews
  • Nice Christmas gift ideas
  • Music collections
  • Book recommendations
  • Travel destinations
  • T-shirts
  • Wishlists
  • ... ??? ...
  • And don't forget calendars all aimed at the specific audience of your niche :)

Absolutely nobody will be astonished if you come along with some Christmas related articles.

Christmas bonus for performancing.com readers

  • Create an annually repeating alarm in your preferred Calendar application.
  • Hire authors or offer your writing skills! The two month before Christmas season are the best time of the year to hire an external writer to push Christmas product related articles.

Personal note

Reading my article again several hours later I have to put the 'commercial hat' away and put my 'personal hat' on. The article may seem too commercial to some readers - even cynical because of the sharp focus - but the monetization aspect of Christmas time is a real life aspect. No offense against anybody intended.

Rule #1: Please take care to not offend your readers feelings i.e about Christmas!

I think it is fair to say

I think it is fair to say Christmas has gone waaay past the commercialism to the point of no return Markus (they had Christmas advertising in october here) :) It's good advice for those of us who make money from blogging. Heck, if we earn a bit extra we can give a bit more to the needy right? :)

Back from the weekend

Thanks Chris for the kind words. I just had the feeling that the article is so in focus that some readers might be annoyed by this point of view.

Great tips, Markus.

Scared of Santa

167 photos of scared kids at sun-sentinel.com

The "scared o' Santa" gallery. You know, I kinda feel sorry for these Santas, having to be all merry and nice while kids scream and get scared and pee on them. (From a review on StumbleUpon)

Take a quick look at pic #4. Poor girl :-) #10 isn't bad too.
