Innovation Leader is a site that covers innovation inside big companies, from new product development and R&D to corporate venture capital investing and startup accelerators.

We're currently seeking freelance writers, located anywhere, who have already done some coverage of Fortune 500 businesses, and ideally some of the people who work in innovation-oriented roles.

Instead of just celebrating the heroes of innovation (how many times do we need to read about Jonathan Ive?), our stories focus on the how and why of innovation at large organizations: how was this new initiative started or new service created...why...what were the challenges...what internal conflicts did you have to overcome...what are the metrics for success?

Our freelancers are skilled at setting up and conducting phone and in-person interviews, and following up as necessary with e-mails to get photos, graphics, or more detail. Persistence is a must, as these executives are all extremely busy. Stories tend to run 500-1000 words, and contain material from one or more interviews you've conducted. (We don't rewrite stuff from other publications, or run stories based on "Internet research.") We like to hear topic and interviewee ideas from our writers, as opposed to just sending you assignments.

Innovation Leader is based in Boston, MA. Our readers are senior innovation executives at large companies and non-profits around the world. Our coverage has featured companies like General Electric, Intel, Phillips, Disney, Delphi, Dell, Clorox, and Black & Decker. Our founders have two decades of experience writing and editing for publications like Fast Company, Wired, BusinessWeek, Compliance Week, and the Boston Globe.

We pay fairly (and promptly). Our best-case scenario is to have you contribute one or two stories a week. All pieces are bylined, with a link to your LinkedIn profile. If you're interested in talking further, please send a résumé and three links to your past business/technology/innovation coverage.
