Enstars.com, the leading online destination for entertainment news and pop culture, is looking for a copy editor. The copy editor we seek has a passion for writing, a sharp eye for detail, a keen knowledge of all things celebrity and the ability to work well under pressure. If you can ensure that articles are error free, easy to read and conform to the house style, then we are looking for you.
—Review writers' final drafts to ensure they're free of errors.
—Make sure the writing is easy to read and fits the publication's editorial style.
—Lead the editing process by fixing any grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
—Double check that names, places and organizations are spelled properly and that facts, dates and statistics are accurate. This may involve contacting writers', sources or conducting online research.
—Confirm headlines and subheads for articles are SEO friendly; make sure images, tags and keywords are accounted for.
—Maintain and update our style guide.
—Work closely with writers, suggesting changes to enhance articles' readability, conciseness and style.
—Help writers research topics and locate/contact sources throughout the development of articles.
—2 to 4 years of copyediting experience
—Superior copyediting and proofreading skills and meticulous attention to detail
—Expert understanding of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, while able to respect author/editor style
—Intimate knowledge of industry guides and resources, including AP, The Chicago Manual of Style, Words Into Type, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
—Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards and juggling multiple projects
—Excellent computer skills including CMS
—Experience electronically editing a plus
—Knowledge of celebrity is a strong plus
