This is big news for anyone playing within the domain arena. ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has announced that they will loosen their grip on domain registration rules which will permit hundreds or thousands of brand new domain names in addition to .com.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers unanimously approved the new guidelines as weeklong meetings in Paris concluded. ICANN also voted unanimously to open public comment on a separate proposal to permit addresses entirely in non-English languages for the first time.

The new domain names won't make their presence known until at least next year.

Do you find this to be good news? Do we really need more domain names?

It's a good news for all

It's a good news for all people who want to make money with theses new domain names. I think .sex .girls .poker will have lot of success...

I agree, this is great!

As the pool of available domain names gets smaller and smaller, I'm looking forward to some fresh extensions. Can you ever really have too many extensions? Who would it hurt?

When I read this story, it

When I read this story, it reminded me of the situation with IPv4 addresses and how we were supposed to run out of them soon, giving way to IPv6 which still has yet to become widely adopted. It seems to me like we were running out of domain names or something.

It doesn't excite me too much!

Everyone assumes you have a .com

At least you should have a .com version of your domain if you want to register for the other TLDs. At least this will be the case for at least a few years.

.sex .girls .poker are different though and I agree they will have lot of success.

kick ass

It cant be bad news - everyone loves new ways of accessing porn

That's what I've been

That's what I've been reading. For the longest time, we've been trained to accept .com, .gov, .org, .net, and .edu as accepting domains but .com has this mystique to it. I believe it's because .com is the moniker that describes the internet as a whole.

Whats funny is that, didn't

Whats funny is that, didn't the proposed XXX TLD get turned down by ICANN?

i hav sum .asia domains

i hav sum .asia domains havnt developd them yet bt will do in course of time
