    Question Unexpected SU traffic

Is there any way to find out why an old post is suddenly getting a lot of traffic from Stumbleupon? I've got one page that got a bit of SU traffic about a month ago when I pushed it out there, but almost nothing since. However, overnight I'm getting a lot of traffic on it (well, a lot for me anyway )

I've checked for reviews but it's only got the one review from when it was first published (and I have nudger to thank for that one) and the URL's SU page is only showing 4 members as having liked it.

I'm not very familiar with how SU works and that's the extent of my knowledge. Anyone have any tips on finding out more? I'm really curious as to why, all of a sudden, it's driving traffic.

That happens to me all the time. I'll have a 6 month old (or more) post all of a sudden get tons of SU traffic. I have no idea why that happens either. Maybe a "popular"/"authoritative" stumbler stumbles it and that causes lots of ppl to see it? Just a guess.

I've had that happened before. Its really weird how/why that happens. I just enjoy the traffic.

    Believe me, I'm enjoying it

I'm just really curious as to why now. I guess if that answer was easy to find, I'd have 'Get 100,000s of hits from Stumbleupon' spam in my inbox instead of being told that I could stand to 'be a bit bigger and oh, did I mention, I've got a cream you might like to buy?'

    Those wacky spammers.

Sometimes SU has a delayed reaction anyway, but I figure it is usually someone getting the page in rotation and thumbing it up but not reviewing so you can't see much difference. I also have a suspicion that SU hand job on occasion

In addition to what Chris said, I think StumbleUpon has a re-rotate function, which brings old stories back from the dead for a chance at a second life.

Who knows the mysteries of the StumbleUpon algorithim? I've had resurgences before, but nothing I can fathom the reason behind. Like the others, I believe a random thumb up can reactivate a post in the rotation.

Could someone have linked to it recently? That could have caused new readership and one of the new readers might have stumbled it.

No new backlinks on it that I could see. I guess someone just gave it a thumbs up and refereshed it within the queue. The extra traffic died off after a day and a couple of hundred hits (big news for me ) so it didn't do much but make me marvel at how opaque these things are.
