    Default Banner Ad Question/Opinion....

So, a couple of weeks ago this company contacts me to have me write a website review. When I give the guy my prices, he decided he'd rather opt for 125 banner placement for a year instead ($10 more). I provide my PayPal address as requested for payment and didn't hear anything back for more than a week.

A couple of days ago, another woman from the same company contacts me and wants to find out about pricing. I let her know about the previous conversation with someone from the same company and get no reply.

Today, the first guy contacts me says "we'll pay once the banner has been placed on the site."

Honestly, communication has been shaky at best. The way I see it is that you don't go to the grocery store and pay for your groceries once your home. Thus payment comes before banner placement.

Am I wrong in this thinking? Do you ever make exceptions on when you accept payment for advertising?

You dont want to give branding time to someone that's not going to pay you. Money then banner!

I agree, money then banner. The last thing you want to do is send him lots of traffic when he hasn't even paid a dime.

Actually, advertising is usually 45 days net. But I simply don't trust that online. Too iffy. So yeah, show me the money

Thanks for the validation. I thought maybe I'm playing in the minor league and this is something that I don't know is done. Happy to see that I'm not the only one with the opinion that payment comes first.

I doubt I'll hear from him again... I gave him my grocery store analogy. LOL

I would suggest that you don't deal with this company *at all*.

Not worth the hassle, they are trying to get something for nothing I think

Blogs aren't for test driving. If they want to 'test drive' then buy a banner for a month. Seems kind of strange - wanting to commit to a year I think. But stranger things have happened.

Certainly I agree with the rest of the bunch, money first!

It depends for me. If it is a small company I've never heard of I typically ask for the money up front. If I know the place is trustworthy I go ahead run the ad.
