Can't comment on the wrath of your wife (wouldn't dare get involved with that!) but I can wholeheartedly recommend a second monitor if you can do it. It makes such a difference to productivity ...

Now I look at the pictures of peoples work environment that you see around on the internet, and I covet a third screen.

A third screen! Jeepers. My cousin has two 22" monitors, and has had them for some time. When I was at his place for a week, and worked on his computer, I have to admit, it was really slick. I used to pair my LCD with a CRT to have two, but the CRT gave me wicked head aches.

So, I went and bought a new computer. Here are the specs (for those interested)

Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Case
    Antec Earthwatts 650w Power Supply
    MSI X58 Platinum ATX Motherboard
    Intel Core i7 920 Processor
    OCZ Gold 6GB Ram
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB HD
    LG DVD Burner (sata version)
    EVGA Geforce 9600GSO Video Card
    Samsung 22" Widescreen LCD

I am going to also attach my 19" (4:3) monitor to it, as well as use my Logitech keyboard and mouse and my crummy 2.0 Labtec speakers. All in all, it should make for a great desktop, and semi-future proof, so I can upgrade it over the next two or three years before having to get another computer.

My wife is okay with the idea, as long as I get rid of all the other desktops in the house. (I have 3 that don't work that I've saved for parts, one acting as a network storage device, and then my current desktop that I just use once or twice a month).

I also have to pick up a bit of extra work over the next three months to pay for my new beast, but as the new Editor of Performancing, I think that counts .

And of course, I drop my laptop this morning, cracking the screen. It is just a small quarter inch dark blue spot, and some spider like lines shooting out from it by two inches, so while annoying, it still works, and is still "okay". Poor laptop. I think it found out about my purchase and tried to commit suicide....lol

The new desktop is amazing though. I have to admit. I am really happy about it. If ONLY it wasn't so hot in my office due to the heat it generates (a good 3-4 degrees over the temp of the rest of the house)

My laptop crack is getting worse (pixels dying more and more)

Still paying off the new desktop though.

I hear you on that one! Although I wish it was only a 3-4 degree difference ..

I'm upstairs on the second floor, and the thermostat is on the main floor. I have it set to 19c downstairs - and upstairs in other rooms, its about 22c .. and in my office about 27c during late afternoons, or higher when I'm printing and have the extra halogen lamp on for lighting..
