I thought you were concentrating on promoting yourself - to get more speaking gigs?

I must say - I personally see no benefit in joining your membership. What type of people would you be looking to join this elite group of 50 members?

(I must be missing something - besides everybody would like a recurring $500.00 per month revenue stream?)

The same type of people that would join Jim Kukral's membership area that he launched today, or the same people that are in Aaron Wall’s SEO Book membership area. People that are looking for personal time and attention and can't afford to pay for consulting in one block.

They gain access to me and my knowledge.

This goes hand in hand with building my brand, and getting more speaking and consulting gigs, as you have to be well known for providing something people can't find anywhere else, and those in my community will get that, much to the frustration of my wife who already thinks I spend too much time online .

I'm not trying to attack or anything .. just real curious.

In those above situations - all seem SEO themed .. are you concentrating on SEO - is that the "david brand?"

    A few things:

    1. It's all going to come down to your current sphere of influence. The best first step would be to give free invitations to people who you think would contribute to a robust and dynamic members area (i.e. not people like me who are overwhelmed with responsibilities already)

    2. Show enough people what it's like behind the veil, and if they like it, they'll tell others.

I'm not so sure how successful this is going to be for you -- don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea.... when the time is right.

Kukral = Big name for a long time
Aaron Wall == Much bigger name for a very long time
    David Peralty...?

I'd say.. build your brand, get your traffic up there, start a newsletter or something and drive up that traffic... and... *then* launch a membership area.

    Thanks Ryan and everyone else.

As for the criticisms. I appreciate it, but it won't change me and my goals regarding this project. I'll carry on building it.

To Matt: Have you heard of Jeff Walker? He is selling a membership course for $2k per year. There are bunches of no-names that know they have value and are willing to search for a market to sell to. I am one of those people

As for Hart's question. No, SEO isn't my expertise. Understanding the ebbs and flows of the web, bending WordPress in weird and wonderful ways, networking with a wide variety of people, speaking at conferences, and doing it all as cheaply as possible is where my expertise lies.

As for me being defensive. I have a lot to prove to those that do sign up, and I expected more "gung-ho", "here's how ya do it" type attitude from the people on here.

Honestly though, I really do respect and appreciate all of your opinions, despite them not being what I was hoping for...lol.
