 Firefox Developer Needed for ScribeFire

Submitted by Nick Wilson on January 28, 2007 - 8:42pm in

ScribeFire, our blog editor for Firefox has been downloaded over 1/2 a million times. It's a really, really cool, open source project.

Unfortunately, our current developer, Jed Brown has gone MIA, and though we all hope he's safe, and worry about him, we have to move on nonetheless. ScribeFire really, really needs to get up to speed with Blogger Beta, the new Wordpress API's and a whole ton of other stuff to stay current, and stay on the Mozilla recommended plugins list.

I'm looking for an FF dev that thinks she/he can take ScribeFire to the next level. If that sounds like you, we'd REALLY like to hear from you! Just drop me a line at performancing@gmail.com

I'll also be emailing a few of the Mozilla folks for help.

Suggestions, help and pointers most welcome!

 Scribefire

Submitted by Nick Wilson on January 1, 2007 - 8:58pm in

As most of you know, Performancing Firefox, our free blog editor for Firefox, will be rebranded, and relaunched under a new name in 2007.

That name is Scribefire.

With well over 400k downloads on Mozilla alone, Scribefire is an awesome project, and one I take particular pride in, having been privilged to shape it's development over the last year.

We're looking for developers and designers to join the new project, so if you think it would interest/benefit you to be involved, please email me at nick@communicontent.com

thanks everyone, and happy new year!

Hello everyone, I'm pleased to announce the release of
Performancing for Firefox 1.3.5.

Download it now!

Not to long ago we talked about the Roadmap for the 1.4 release, and what we have in store. However with recent changes in the Blogger.com service, we thought it would be a good idea to have an intermediate release with bugfixes and better Blogger.com support. So here we are with 1.3.5!

Update on Performancing Partners Network Progress

Submitted by Nick Wilson on October 11, 2006 - 8:16am in

I keep putting off posting on this as every day I think "yep, we'll launch tomorrow for sure..." and as I've never been a great timekeeper, and a terminal optimist to boot, the days have just slipped by havn't they? Sorry about that everyone, Im pretty sure the Perf community will forgive us our silence just a little while longer right?

We will get this network out the door, if it kills me we'll get this beast done dammit heh...

My best guess on time right now is publishers tomorrow, advertisers a few days later, but don't hold your breath. Even if I do say so myself (modesty is a virtue I do not possess), it's 'ing awesome, and you're gonna love it -- so much has gone into making Partners everything we as bloggers would want from an ad network you know?

Anyway, back to it. Bear with us folks, we're still here, just really really tied up with other stuff for a bit...

Thanks!

 Performancing for Firefox Update

Submitted by Jed Brown on October 4, 2006 - 6:19am in

Recently I talked about what's in store for PFF 1.4, and we got a great response.

As you know, we are working hard to get this release out the door as a solid release.

To make sure things go as smooth as before, we'd like to have a series of Beta's to get your feedback.

 Performancing for Firefox 1.4 Roadmap

Submitted by Jed Brown on September 12, 2006 - 9:00pm in

While we are hard at work on creating PFF 1.4, I'd like to take this moment to get some feedback from you all, pff users.

Currently the roadmap looks like this

  1. Image Service uploading (flickr, Photobucket, etc.) - An Easy, single interface for uploading images. Also make it easy to add new uploading Services
  2. Edit Accounts Dialog - Give easy access to renaming your blog, changing your password, etc.
  3. Blogger Beta support - Support for blogger's latest and greatest  service
  4. Import/Export of account settings - Easily back up and import your pff settings
  5. Re-do Image Uploading UI - Create a kick-ass image uploading UI where you can easily choose to upload via FTP, your blog's upload api or a image service (like flickr)
  6. Re-vamp Settings UI - Right now it really looks bad, and has alot of room for improvement.
  7. Better Formatting Options - Improve how we generate HTML in the Rich edit mode and add more formatting feature in the context menu (i.e. Font Family, H1, H2, .., )
  8. Other small bug-fixing

I'd love to hear what you think of this feature set, and any suggestions, or something we are missing.
Specifically how you would like to see Image Uploading work given the options of FTP, Image Services and Blog API Uploading.

With your help, I think PFF 1.4 will be our biggest release yet!

Where should this go say on a blogger template?

z_post_title="<$BlogItemTitle$>";

Having some issues with where to post the first java script code after adding one of my blogs. It says to add it in the content of the template. I have no problems adding the performancing button to the sidebar but not sure what the other code does? Am I that dumb

 Windows Live Writer and PFF

Submitted by KirkM on September 11, 2006 - 5:42pm in

I have become a bit concerned since the release of Windows Live Writer (WLW).

What I have noticed in testing this new blog editor is that even though it's still a beta, it looks like it will end up blowing away most if not all "stand alone" local wysiwyg type blog editors such as Qumana, BlogWriter, BlogDesk etc, and especially those editors that you have to actually pay for (which usually aren't as good as the ones that come free of charge ironically enough).

Although I don't believe PFF will be "blown away" since it's the only editor that's incorporated into the Firefox browser itself but I do think it may lose some if a couple functions aren't added to this already quality product:

1. The ability to upload pictures from the the user's hard drive directly to the blog hosting service (such as offered by WordPress.com) or by FTP, not just by tagging a url to such as Flickr or Photobucket for example.

2. Also, there's a problem with where WLW stores it's uploaded images in some blog hosting services. I'll use my blog's example (a WordPress.com hosted type).

--This is the url that Wordpress normally stores one of my uploaded images:
http://justhinkin.wordpress.com/files/2006/04/1144022719031.jpg

--This is the url that WLW stores an uploaded image to WordPress.com:

http://justhinkin.wordpress.com/files/2006/09/WindowsLiveWriter/
Secondstainedglasspanel_E9E1/Glass%20Panel2%5B1%5D.jpg

You'll notice that the extra directory, "WindowsLiveWriter", added to the path along with the "Secondstainedglasspanel_E9E1/Glass%20Panel2%5B1%5D.jpg" at the end.

If PFF is used to edit a post (with images) that was originally written and posted using WLW, the text edits will post correctly but, even though PFF seems to be aware of the path to the embedded images in the post that's being edited, once uploaded "as an edit" to the blog, all the images will disappear. Checking the image placeholder "Properties" usually shows the correct WLW path (as above) but the image still does not show. All images have to be uploaded using WLW once again.
