After using most all of the blog editors for Windows - w.bloggar, ecto, BlogJet, and so forth... I've landed here. What a great product. Please consider the following:
1. A persistent list of Technorati tags rather than entering them for each blog entry.
2. I get the screen letting me know my entry has been published, usually after I've pressed the "Clear Content" button and and typing the next entry. It's an interruption and if I click to remove content, my present content goes away. It's a timing problem as the "Publish To..." button changes back to solid when the initial entry has been published.
3. Please consider some way to save/use a small list of snippets where we can add them by pressing a hot key or single burron on the Performancing screen (drop down?)
That's it for now. Keep up the great work.
Best,
Dennis

The snippet thing, can you
The snippet thing, can you not use the notes feature?

Hi Dennis;
1) So do you want it to save your last used tags or have a place, say in settings, where you can specify a few that should always be placed in there?
2) Hmm, so you mean the screen that gives you the options to clear your content or preserve it usually pops up pretty late?
3) As Chris, I'm not sure what you mean here. You mean like select some text and have an option in the context menu to save it under some name?

For #1, I'd vote for a place
For #1,
I'd vote for a place to store all of them. And then when you add new one to a post, have it update that stored list. Then made some kind of cloud or drop down to select tags and add them to posts.
Another option that would be nice for Wordpress would be to have it interact with the tags the Ultimate Tag Warrior manages. That way when we could use PFF to manage our tags, but when we're stuck somewhere with IE the tags would be in Wordpress so that we still have access to them.
I would definitely be interested in Beta testing that one if you ever do it.
Answer's to Hi Dennis...
Thanks for the quick reply and the interest!
1)Yes! For instance, on my blog, which is Photo News Today, I tend to reuse a core group of tags. I'd like that to be persistent, so I don't have to rewrite them each time. I think the best is to have a place in settings where you can store a base set that's automatically applied for each entry is the best idea. The user can always edit those and/or add others at blog time.
2)Yes... Unless I click the "Clear Content" immediately after the "Publish To..." button returns from animated stripes to solid, I get the "Post Successful" screen and the two buttons. I would presume the "Publish To..." button is enough of an indicator. But, if I clear my content after a few seconds and start entering a new blog entry, the "Post Successful" screen pops up, interrupting my entry and..., well take it from there.
3)Let me give you an example. I use WordPress and have a plugin called AdSense Deluxe (which, by the way, is great for entering any JavaScript into a PHP blog like WordPress). With AdSense Deluxe, I can specify various AdSense insertions and or Amazon inserts, using a HTML comment, such as:
<div align="center"><!--adsense#ama1--></div>Currently, I enter these by using a keyboard macro program, Macro Express, where I could call the AdSense insert with: .]ada for instance (forget the period. I'm using it so my macro isn't triggered).
Now, let's say I had a small table, say ten entries, where I could store snippets and call them out with function keys, or Ctrl+[key], or some other keyboard trigger.
Using a note doesn't work, because I would have to copy/paste, rather than use a shortcut, which is more efficient.
Did I make this clear (no sleep last night and low caffeine quotient).
BTW, thanks for even considering this.

The difference between notes
The difference between notes (=drafts) and the missing feature of clippings is so old that it has a long white beard by now :-)
Jed, I have written that very long concept about drafts and clipping sometimes in January '06. The subject will pop up from time to time until it is solved :-)
Put 'notes' into 'blogs' and some more 'workflow' thoughts
For clippings there is a great extension for Firefox but it can't be used in PFF.
Markus, I agree, and like
Markus,
I agree, and like most if not all of your suggestions.
Maybe we can shoot for some of those for the 1.4 release.
spell check . . .
I have tried to get Aspel spell and the google toolbar to spellcheck my posts before sending them, but can't make them work. In the case of the google toolbar, I get a message that all the fields are blank, which leads me to conclude that the split screen is not recognized by the toolbar.
Spell check would be a great feature.
Also being able to have a completely separate session for Performancing, with a window open for stuff you are reading or copying would also be neat.
This is a wonderful product for people who like to post pictures and have acces to ftp.
Spotty, Most of this
Spotty, Most of this already exists:
1) Spellchecker - PFF will have out-of-the-box spell checking in Firefox 2.0 when it's final. In the mean-time you can either get an extension that is compatible with 1.5.x and PFF or enable spellcheck in Firefox 2.0b1.
Details are here
2)You can launch PFF in a window and have it open like normal by right-clicking on the pff icon.
Please note however that unless you are carefull you can loose data by having two pff's open. Specifically if you are heavily editing data in both. It's better to just edit data in one of them and use the other for accessing notes or temporarily editing/pasting data.
I would also suggest always closing the version of PFF that you are working in last to make sure the right data set is saved.
@Jed - clippings: Do you see
@Jed - clippings: Do you see a possibility to integrate the FF extension Clippings as an add-on to PFF?
Some addons required.....
Three important addons required for PFF.
1. Clear all formating info. (similar to blogger)
2. Option to add link to Tilte. (Currently we need to specify blockquotes)
3. photoupload to flickr and put inside performancing. (This would be damn difficult..!!)
I vote for clear all
I vote for clear all formatting too.
Link to title is blogger specific. Most other system are configured permalink to title.
Upload to Flickr is not necessary because there are better tools for that which also support groups, default tags and IPTC - like FlickrImportr.
Yes, No so much the
Yes,
No so much the 'Clipping' extension, but a flavor of our own.
Clippings is a great extension, however including the full load I think is a bit overkill and would increase pff's size drastically. For 1.4 I'd like to see a similar but smaller feature in pff.
So yes, this will be coming. More like "Custom Tags" if you will.
Also someone could creat a pff-addon like the FireFTP addon and embed clippings into pff.
1) Do you mean remove
1) Do you mean remove formatting from selected or from all?
Would from selected be ok? I'd rather be able to choose what I want to strip the formatting from then have it do everything. You can always select it all anyhow.
2)Not sure what you mean. Do you mean actually have a link in the title?
Does it work if you manually put the link html in the title?
3) Agreed, that would be cool.
Greetings, new here, suggestions
Hello,
I am new to this forum so this may be the wrong place to post this. I am exploring the Performancing Firefox extension and I think it will be useful, particularly the add-ons. However I have a peculiar situation. I run a "quasi-blog" site which I call Momentum Monitor (it's located at http://www.momentum-mag.org/monitor.htm). Each entry is a link to a news article on another website.
Now, each entry in this database contains a title, short blurb, read-more URL, and several index keys: country code, region code (which the system will identify from the country code if it is specified), a "section" (one of about 15 or so), a topic, and a positive/negative indicator (+/-). The sections and topics are hard coded. I am the only one who can enter entries.
I would like to adapt the Performancing tool to enable this. So my question is, are these additional fields things that would have to be added to Performancing itself (not likely) or are they things that can be added via the Add-Ons or Templates? I am not new to programming (I maintain websites that have about 50,000 lines of PHP code) but I am new to Performancing so I'm trying to find out if this can be done before I invest the time to figure out how to do it.
Cordially,
Justin Long
Justin. That depends, does
Justin.
That depends, does your site have API calls for these features?
Does your "quasi-blog" even have a blogging api?
It sounds like you would need to add these hardcoded features to your api, then you could add these features to pff via an addon.
The 'upcoming' MySpace addon will be a good example to look at, on how to add more features to pff.
And I'm hear for any questions or help you need.
Blogging API
No. The news monitor page does everything via PHP. We have userid/password authentication on the add/edit post page, and then use a form post. I'll look further at the addon documentation and see if I can dig up some docs on blogging APIs.
re: Do you mean remove
1) Yes. Something like in Blogger editor. selected is even better than all. !!
2) Something like this. http://static.flickr.com/81/218241407_95b730c386_o.jpg
This generally used for linking to actual post. (Something u have for performancing for complete post)
features..!!
Ya its not necessary but can we have it as an addon? tools u mention are 4 Windows and very few for FF. (Even we have good satndalones' for Blogging ..!! Then Y we use PFF :))
ofcourse if spell "only for professional bloggers those who hav paid hosting, they hav access to FTP..
Please comment on this....
Thanks for the screenshot,
Thanks for the screenshot, now I know what you mean.
I don't know if that entry is exposed with the Atom Blogger API, but will look into it. Maybe the added it to the new Blogger beta api.
As for your last post, I didn't understand anything you said or what you were asking me to comment on? Could you clarify? thanks, and sorry.
Refresh categories button in Version 1.3
Hey all,
One minor suggestion for PFF.
The ability to refresh Categories such as button located at the bottom of the Categories tab.
If I add a new category in WordPress I have to save my post that I'm writing as a note and shutdown and restart Firefox in order to refresh the categories tab (I haven't found a way to log out of a blog in PFF and log back in which would refresh everything as well).
Any plans on including this particular function any time soon? Makes things a lot easier when publishing on the fly and using the WordPress online admin at the same time.
Please let me know if I've missed something obvious here. I tend to do that. Thanks
Otherwise...no complaints at all with my tried and true blog editor.
Kirk,
Kirk,
Actually, to refresh the history and categories of your blog, just click (re-select) it again in the blog list.
Please let me know if this does not work for you.
it was for Markus Merz

I disagree on the last, I
I disagree on the last, I really need Flickr support right in PFF, I want it integrated.
Actually there is an FF Extension
Look at this Pickup
..But some how we need to integrate it with PFF as an addon and get URL for Blogging tht image. Its not going to be that simple. I am studying Extension making. but i need some help.
It's much easier to copy &
It's much easier to copy & paste the Flickr code from 'all sizes' then it would be for Jed to integrate the Flickr API. And I have no idea how to tell Flickr which size you want to integrate in your article.
The development effort should go into the editor (clips, templates, signatures, ...).
As always just my 2c ...
New Blogger API
I was going through Blogger beta API. They have now introduced GData API for blogger too..Do we use original blogger API for PFF ?
Flickr has an extensive API,
Flickr has an extensive API, I have used it myself quite a bit.
@jigar: No, not yet. I'm
@jigar:
No, not yet. I'm working on a dev build now for the new Blogger API support (Atom 1.0 and GData).
As for Pickup, I'm talking with their author know to see what can be done there, so we don't have to re-invent the wheel here.
@jed Thts cool....
thanks. So its better not to switch to blogger Beta right now...
New APi will support Category feature too. Not exactly the same but similar.
Waiting to see it working...:)
