subdomain or subdirectory?

For a group blog/network - which is better for SEO purposes - using subdomains or subdirectories? I'm guessing subdomains, but I wanted to get some feedback on this.

That's what I thought - and I believe that is what we want. Its something to take some time and think of the implications of.

Good
- links between each of the blogs would count as an external link.
- technorati would count them as separate blogs.
?

bad
- incoming links will be divided up between all instead of coming into one place
?

There must be more, I should give some more thought to this.

Google would know that the links were from a "network" though so do not count on that too much.
