If this position is still available I am very interested.

Though i've never written on this particular topic, I have much knowledge of this topic, and I have great access to resources in this area.

I have thirty-three years of

I have thirty-three years of experience, both from working in an extremely hazardous environment and from supervising those who do, as a ship master.

I've developed safety procedures, occasionally *forced* compliance with safety procedures, and taught safety procedures and the safety 'mindset' in compliance with OSHA and HSE(UK) requirements.

The safety mindset is the most critical skill any employee can develop, as it leads (ultimately) to a 'safety culture' in an organization and has a direct effect on the bottom line of any group, be it for-profit or non-profit. It goes beyond the minimum requirements of safety shoes and ear plugs and the other personal protection equipment required in an industrial setting and reaches into the office and home environment.

The safety mindset in the home environment is too often overlooked as a profit center for an organization, but if an employee falls off an unsecured or improperly secured ladder at his/her residence, that means time off for recovery, an insurance claim and possibly an unusual - but valid - Worker's Compensation Claim.

Is the safety mindset a critical element of a company's profit? The obvious answer, in light of the above, is a resounding yes. Perhaps the next installment will feature ways to foster this mindset in ways and places that, for most organizations, are unexpected.

I've got the chops and I like to write.
