Summary
Do you dream of traveling the world. Or maybe just parts of it? Maybe you've actually travelled, possibly even blogged about it? Or you're happy just writing about far off places. Well Ryan Caldwell's network of Ten Foot Square travel blogs needs bloggers now. There are a ton of opportunities, but please read the explanation below carefully before proceeding.
- 10 positions available for travel blogging
- Free training provided by skilled pro-blogger Raj Dash
- Compensation: $150/month + quarterly $25/month raises
- Requirements: 20 travel posts and 2 travel resource posts per month
Sites
There are 11 sites at TFS (Ten Foot Square), including the main one. (There are other travel sites in the network, though positions there are filled at present.) Each of the 10 "regional" blogs covers all or part of a specific continent or geographic area.
Positions
There are 10 blogging jobs open at present, to cover the different region blogs. We'll be hiring one person per month, starting September. (First hire will be done in August.)
Hiring Process
Ryan will be setting up a special blog site as a training ground.
- To qualify as a potential candidate, you will sign up at the training site. Blog there about travel for at least a week on your own, with comments/ suggestions from us. Ryan and I will select one blogger candidate for hire each month.
- If you are hired, you will blog for pay at the main TFS site for one month.
- After the main site, you'll be assigned a regional blog - based either on your preference or what regions are available. That will be "your" blog to work on and promote, hopefully on a long-term basis. We will also have others overseeing the blog, promoting, etc.
My Role
Ryan has hired me, Raj Dash, as the Channel Manager and Editor of 14 of his travel sites. I'll be devising an editorial calendar for each of the 10 blogs in question. You must at least loosely follow the editorial calendar. I'll also be copyediting your entries for various reasons. You will post in draft mode. I'll be interacting with you at least a few times per week, initially. I'll also be adding visual elements such as photos, slideshows, videos and maps to posts on a long-term basis.
Work Process and Schedule
Main TFS Blog:
When you start off at the main TFS site, you do not have to follow a strict editorial calendar. This 2nd trial will last until the end of the month you start in. In that time period, you'll start working in advance on articles for your regional site, based on the editorial calendar I give you. (You'll have some leeway, but must discuss topics with me.
Regional Blog:
While you do have a lot of flexibility in your posting schedule, because I will be summarizing all regional blog posts on the main TFS site, articles for a given week should be written in advance
Monthly Compensation
The longer you stay on the project, the more it will pay off. We are looking at long-term positions here. If you only want to blog for a few months, you may not get as much out of it.
Main TFS Blog:
You will be compensated US$100 for 20 posts for blogging in the first month at the main TFS site.
Regional Blog:
Each hired blogger has the following options, once they get assigned a regional blog. We feel that this structure not only motivates you to work with passion and promote "your" travel blog but gives you much better compensation in the long run. The more effort you put in, the more likely you are to be compensated well.
- 20+2 posts/month = $150/mth
- 1 post/day (20 post/mth), Mon-Fri only
- 2 resource posts/month (under my guidance)
- Bonus $25/m extra after every quarter, up to at least 4 quarters.
- I.e., $250/m for 20+2 posts after the first year
- Subsequent increases will be negotiated on a blog by blog basis, depending on various factors.
Payment will be via PayPal only. If you cannot take payment that way, we apologize but cannot consider you.
Article Details
Articles on the main site are general and are a trial run for you (besides the blog training site). Articles on "your" blog must relate to the region you have been selected for. All daily articles should be at least 300 words, on either the main site or your assigned blog. All resource articles should be 700+ words. You need to post 1 article per day, Mon-Fri, totalling 20 per month to qualify to stay on long-term.
Qualifications
While preference will be give to either those with some knowledge of travel and/or blogging, anyone can try out on the training site. If you prove yourself there for a week, then that's all that matters, provided you can sustain it. If selected, you'll be given a one month paid trial at the main TFS, as stated above. Ryan and I will decide after that trial whether to give you a regional blog to work on.
How to Apply
Email me at rdash001-at-yahoo-dot-ca or PM me at Performancing with all your details (Full name, email address, any travel knowledge, travel blogging experience, or blogging experience, along with a few relevant URLs, if any). Then register at Travel.BloggingTrainer.com with your real name and details. You will be promoted up so that you can post. Now start posting original sample travel articles for a week to qualify for the first blogger job - which starts in September. Only those under consideration will be contacted. You can repeat the process in subsequent months if you are not hired in a previous month.
Miscellaneous
We plan to choose at least the first blogger by the end of August, to start writing in September. Since we're planning to hire one new blogger each month, we'll keep announcing each month previous when you can apply. If you apply but don't get hired, don't give up. Just post to the training blog again for a week for each new position. Keep in mind that at present, there will only be 10 total positions, so give it your best.
