We're looking for someone to gather and organize information. Filter the daily news and mine the Web to:
- extract key facts into our database
- categorize information to support easy discovery and cross-referencing
- put the news in context by finding the back-story
- organize interesting quotes into 1-2 blog posts per day
- find a suitable (royalty free) image to complement each post
The job requires lots of research, some editing, and very little writing.
Our target is 20 hours/week, starting at $15/hour (negotiable) with raises based on performance. There may be an opportunity for more hours in the future. We're a small company: 2 full-time and 2 part-time; everyone works from home. We developed our own blogging software and will continue to develop useful research tools.
We have two open positions:
- http://prefabcosm.com/ is on its way to becoming the #1 resource for prefab and modular homes
(and currently on the first page of Google results for a search on "prefab")
- http://blogcosm.com/ is a daily reference to the world of blogging
(covers people, events and lots of numbers: traffic, revenue and beyond)
The two new hires will work together to follow our existing style guide, capture ongoing feedback into an expanded guide, and review each other's drafts to keep quality high.
Must be able to deal graciously with feedback, both internal and external. Must have very high standards, and the desire to educate and inform. Must be able to organize information from multiple sources into a logical sequence. Although we don't write much original content, excellent grammar and spelling are important.
To apply, please pick ONE of the sites (Prefabcosm or Blogcosm) and tell us why you think this job is a good fit. It's ok to send links or to paste a plain-text resume into the email, but NO ATTACHMENTS. If you want to send something that's not posted on the Web, include a short description in the email and we'll get back to you.
Attention to detail is an important part of the job, and plays a big role in our hiring.
I'd like to add a personal note here, especially to those who've never faced a big stack of responses to a job posting. The last time we had a similar opening, we received plenty of applications. A hiring manager MUST look for reasons to pick one person over another. Please consider whether this job is one you would enjoy and where you will excel. If so, please don't send a generic cover letter. Take the time to create an application that will stand out from the crowd.

@ Caroldim: You didn't quite read the "generic CV" bit. No offense, madame, but pleased sprinkle a bit of life into your responses. Again I don't intend to belittle you in anyway but just offer some friendly advice. This humdrum, perfunctory language doesn't always serve one well in the blogosphere, where you need refreshing exuberance. If you ever want help pm me, or visit pulkitspace.blogspot.com and leave a comment and I will get back. Philanthropic Blogger - helping bloggers since 2007.
Interested in blogcosm.com
I would like the opportunity to discuss this opening in further detail. Although I am new to blogging myself, I am very familiar in many methods used to drive both paid and organic traffic through Google and other search engines. I have SEO knowledge and an extensive database of information to pull from in order to be an effective writer for this particular blog. I am a work from home individual and do have the time to devote to your project. I have a resume full of sales and marketing experience, with my most recent position being a regional marketing manager for a national company. I have both the real world and the e-world skills necessary to succeed for you. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

WOOHOO!!!! I am ready to bring excitement to blogging!!!
I have never blogged before, but I am online all of the time. I like to keep up with entertainment and interesting facts. I think I type like I am,, my personality comes out. I think I can entertain readers and keep them coming back for more. I bring heart, laughter, and a really good sense of humor. I would like to know more details about the position. I would also like to know if the 2 of us can decide which areas we would like to talk about and stick to those areas? I am not into politics and feel I probably wouldn't bring as much positive energy to subjects that I am not that into. Can't wait to hear from you!!!!

Response to Part-Time Web Researcher / Blogger
I am an IT professional looking to expand my experience to include the blogging world. I currently work in Higher Education and have an earned BA in Business Management, MS in Computer Science and am currently working towards my PhD in Education. Thus, research, editing and writing is my thing. ;)
I am able to write and organize information very logically and am a creative person by nature. I am interested in working for http://blogcosm.com/, however, I would consider working on the http://prefabcosm.com site as well. I think the blogscosm.com site would be a better fit for me as an educator at heart, I would enjoy the diverse nature of the site.
As the act of blogging for pay is new to me, the concept is not. I currently manage MS SharePoint for the college I work for and with my CS background, the learning curve to blogging would be short.
Although not indicated in your request for applications, I do have many other programming and web skills that could prove useful should you need to expand the duties of this part time position.
In addition, I offer outstanding organizational skills and an attention to detail, which have proven to be a critical asset in supporting dynamic teams. These qualities, combined with my dedication and strong work ethic, should enable me to make a positive impact within your organization.
I would welcome a personal interview at your earliest convenience to discuss your needs and objectives and the possibility of working together to meet them.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Where To Send My Resume
Hi,
I'm interested on this job posting. On which email address do I send my Resume?
I hope to hear from you. Thank you.
Ayrin
I absolutely love prefabcosm.com & would love to blog for you!!
I am a 36-year old wife and mother of 3 (17, 15 and 9). Due to health reasons I have been forced to work from home. I spent 15 years working in the legal field specializing in Real Estate Law. I attended real estate school as well. My husband and I gave serious consideration to a buying prefab house before purchasing our home. I always do extensive research on anything I consider purchasing. I look for great customer service and/or lots of specific information on products and therefore, I believe that I would serve as a great asset in that I expect excellence and therefore will strive to give excellence.
Without great employees, companies suffer!! I pride myself on being very successful, dedicated and important to the company I work for!
I look forward to hearing from you shortly to discuss my employment with your organization!! Thank you for your time and attention in this matter!
Very truly yours,
Michele F.

I am a surf purf! Are you?
Qualifications
I had a TI/99 in 1983! A PS/1 with Prodigy in 1985. I have a MS in Biology. As a teacher I developed and taught a course on "Internet Biology." This required me to be a "surf purf," that is, I had to do a great deal of surfing with a purpose on the Internet .

I am a miner! I can dig out the gems of the web.
Blogger for Change!
After having spent the better part of two hours cleaning peanut butter from the walls, preparing school lunches, cutting gum out of the carpet, and (much to my chagrin) fishing out a Thomas the Tank Engine train from the bathroom toilet, your part-time researcher/web blogger posting is a breath of fresh air to an otherwise horrendous evening! I am a professional whom balances the Herculean task of raising children while working from home, and I am highly interested in Blogcosm.
Qualifications include an M.A. in Public Service, with undergraduates in both Journalism and Law Studies. Though I'm new to the world of blogging, I possess ample market research qualifications and savvy internet skills. Writing (feature & news articles, press releases, opinion pieces, etc.) and editing is a strong asset - as stated by several journalists and news editors. Woe to the unorganized as I'm highly fastidious about details, and I expect the same of my colleagues! I am highly motivated, and I have a unique specialty, whereby I am able to get along with even the most difficult of office staff!
Interested? I hope so. Please contact me via email so that I may send you my resume. If not, I bid you well in your search of the right candidate.
Best regards,
Nicole

Although I'm new to the world of blogging, I possess ample market research qualifications and wonderful internet skills. Spelling and editing is a strong asset of mine as well!
I would gladly work for Prefab as that I enjoy looking at houses while I do research on things. I am always up to date on news and everything as that I am on the internet all day long off and on.
Any questions, please feel free to ask me!
Thank you and Best Regards!
Mary

First, I apologize for not checking this thread sooner; I didn't realize people would respond in public. I *have* been checking my private messages here at Performancing, and sent responses.
Second, unless I'm missing something obvious, most people above didn't leave any contact info! I see a few email addresses or URLs, and a few "submitted by" names are links; otherwise I don't know how to reach you.
The Blogcosm position has been filled, and I expect to fill the Prefabcosm position shortly -- though I will still look at resumes from people with a very strong interest in prefab homes.
We may have other openings in the near future, e.g. one related to bilingual / ESL for kids, another related to domaining. If you're interested in either, please send an email that follows the "To apply" directions above. (And be sure to read the friendly advice from the second comment!)
My email address is 2 clicks away at either:
Blogcosm - A daily reference to the world of blogs.
Prefabcosm - The world of prefab and modular homes.
Prefab: In that case, I am
Prefab: In that case, I am turning off comments here.
For future reference, most applicants tend to respond as a comment, even if the job posting says to email.
