Submitted by slabuda on May 21, 2008 - 1:39pm in

Hi. We are looking for a freelance writer for our company blog. We are a small web design/development firm searching for a freelance writer who can write 1-5 posts per week about web marketing, seo, email marketing, web design, etc. In addition, this person may be asked to blog about our specific products and services from time to time.

We are about to launch a new website with a blog and while we intend to post to the blog sometimes, we would like to have content regularly added by others. You would be ghost-writing as a member of our staff.

If you are interested, please PM me your rates as well as links to examples of your writing. The is an ongoing position, so we are only interested in people who can commit to at least 6 months of work.

Hello there-

I am applying for your writer position and I come to you with more than twenty years experience. I am primarily a humorist and writer of feature articles for several local newspapers, but I can and do write just about anything, including web copy, blogs, newsletters, keyword-rich articles, press releases, short ghost and horror stories and creative non-fiction.

I have written two books, A Taste of Funny, which is available as both an e-book and as a paperback, and a collection of short stories awaiting publication called Tales For a Dark And Rainy Night. I am also in the process of writing a non-fiction book, Gotham Notorious, which features biographies of well-known New Yorkers throughout the history of the city. It is now more than half way finished.

I currently maintain eight web sites on the Internet, which contain many well-researched articles on a wide variety of subjects, including food and drink, Eat, Drink And Really Be Merry (http://www.ingestandimbibe.com) and pop culture, Pop Goes The Culture (http://www.cultureschlockonline.com), just to name a few. I urge you to visit my sites so that you can get an idea of what I can offer your publication.

I am enclosing my resume and one several writing sample below on the related topic.

Unethical SEO Practices: Cloaking

What is cloaking and why is it unethical? These and other questions will be addressed below.

Also known as “stealth” and “IP redirection”, cloaking is a technique that involves serving one set of information to known search engine spiders while displaying a different set of information on documents viewed by clients. While there may be unique situations in which the use of cloaking might be considered ethical, such as redirection from a site now obsolete, it is never required and should always be handled with extreme care. Before you take on any new strategy, you should always ask yourself, “Is this the right thing to do?” (Even when dollars coming in make you want to look the other way, you must always ask the question because the answer will never steer you wrong.)

Why is cloaking unethical? For one thing, it frustrates the web surfer in search of a particular service or product. As such, the pages that are indexed by the search engine are NOT the pages that the search engines return to the user. This practice also completely undermines the search engine’s attempt to do a legitimate search for the user. It is possible that the two pages may be very similar and that no great harm will be done, but this technique is still often abused. Another reason to avoid cloaking is that it can get you banned from the major search engines.

So think twice and better yet, thrice, the next time some new scheme about cloaking or any other unethical SEO practices is brought to your attention. Find a reputable web services provider and more important, DON”T DO IT!
