Bloggers Required for 3 Blogs

Submitted by Ahmed Bilal on September 20, 2007 - 9:08am in

Update: All positions are filled, thank you for sending in your applications. If you're interested, please consider signing up as guest authors as more places will open up in the coming months.

I'm looking to hire bloggers for 3 blogs - all related to football (soccer), and all being paid positions.

Some general details:

  • I own Soccerlens.com as well as a handful of other football fan blogs. If you're a football fan and want to make money writing about what you love, getting on board is your best chance of doing so.
  • I'd like to start by 1st October (although it's OK if you apply afterwards because there's always a place open for a good writer) and I'd like to take out a few days for training / preparation, so if you're interested, please apply asap.
  • You MUST email me at ahmed(at)soccerlens.com - don't PM me, I'm lazy with those things (my email is my to-do box, so your application will get immediate attention)
  • You must have a good command of the English language, and you must have good knowledge about football. There's no way around this one.
  • When you write in, send me 2 writing samples, the position you're applying for and your motivation to apply for this gig. Be honest!
  • For each project, more details will be provided via email.
  • Payment at the end of each month, not 'start of next month'.
  • You must understand basic blogging skills, or be willing to learn (I'll show you, if you write well enough):
    • Keywords in title and first paragraph, at the least
    • If you base your article on someone else's, give them credit by linking.
    • Understand what good link anchor text is.
    • Understand the importance of deep-linking back to your own archived articles (on the blog, once there's enough), and understand how to write in such a way that you can link back.

Alright then, on with the 3 projects (URLs are kept private for now):

Project #1: Football Celebrity Gossip

This is a new blog profiling footballers' wives and girlfriends (WAGs) as well as the latest football celebrity gossip. I want the site to be the first name people think of when 'WAGs' and 'football celebrity gossip' comes into conversation. It's a tough gig in the beginning, but because I'm running Soccerlens.com and have a few contacts in the celebrity blogging niche we'll be able to push this one fast out of the blocks.

Posting Requirements: 2 posts per day, 6 days a week (plus a weekly roundup).

Payment Terms: $100 / month + first $100 in site revenues. After 3 months, assuming that your work is consistent and of a high quality, you will be upgraded to $150/month. 6 months later this will turn into $200/month + 25% rev share. Since there is plenty of scope in this niche for linkbait, you'll also be required to work on weekly linkbait pieces (which would be equal to 2 posts).

I already have one candidate for this post - if you're interested I'd advise you to email me asap for more details.

Project #2: Football Club Kits

This is a new blog posting about the kits (shirts / jerseys) that football clubs bring out every year (or every two years). The idea is to start with covering the major leagues and eventually target the long tail by covering all the leagues for which we have shirts (and affiliates) available.

Posting Requirement: No fixed requirement, as we have to get football kits from the major leagues up by the end of November.

Payment Details: $2 per post (all you have to do is find the kit image from the vendor site, write a 200-300 word description, add the affiliate link and put it up).

Once again, there's someone interested for this post, so please hurry up and email me if you're interested.

Project #3: Soccerlens

There are two types of positions open at Soccerlens: Columnist, and Editor.

1. The columnist will be expected to cover a specific competition (La Liga, Serie A, Premier League, Champions League and MLS to start with, although if you're interested in another competition on this list, let me know as well). He/she will be asked to post 1 article per day, with a weekly roundup of the news as well.

Payment is $100 / month. After 3 months, assuming that your work is consistent and of a high quality, you will be upgraded to $150/month.

2. The editor will be responsible for moderating comments, participating in conversations, starting 3 discussion topics each day (using news snippets) and eventually, editing and publishing articles submitted by other writers.

Payment is $200 / month. If you can take on more responsibilities quicker (namely, if I feel you're doing good enough to take over the role of editing/publishing the work of other writers), then you'll get a pay increase to $300 / month (this could take anywhere from one to three months). After 6 months, you'll also get 10% rev share (which by that time should mean an effective doubling of your salary, at least).
