 Performancing Metrics Unveiled

Submitted by Administrator on March 26, 2007 - 6:09pm in

Well, we already have a bunch of users. But after a wee bit of testing. I'm inviting everyone to sign up for their free trial of Performancing Metrics. Features are added weekly and we have a great developer working on it all the time.

Feedback is more than welcome. It's geared toward Mom and Pop Bloggers rather than large A-List type sites. It provides a ton of data, most of it useful.

"Performancing Metrics is a new and unique web analyzer that gives bloggers and smaller web sites a more personal understanding of their visitors. Many analyzers give good summaries, and Performancing Metrics is no different - but the similarities stop there. Performancing Metrics stands out with its refreshingly clean and simple interface, innovative features like Spy and RSS feeds, and an unrivaled per visitor level of detail. You also get real time stats, outbound link tracking, download tracking, and much much more." ~ About Performancing Metrics

My favorite part is the affiliate program. You will earn 20% of every payment made to us by any user who signs up through your affiliate link and eventually becomes a paying premium member. Additionally, there is a second tier commission of 5%, which means you will get 5% of any payment made to us by your referal's referals.

 Help finding metrics

Submitted by Howtobewebsmart on February 20, 2007 - 3:22am in

Hello,

I need some help. It's been a while since I've logged into performancing.com - and I can't find my metrics page? Is the feature still available? Help!

 Metrics Closed

Submitted by Chris Garrett on January 11, 2007 - 3:04pm in

It saddens me to have to post this as my first job as CEO of Performancing but as from now the Metrics service has had to close. While we would have loved to have kept the service running it just was not possible. I hope in the future there will be a version released as open source, until then we recommend you take a look at the new service from Feedburner.

Need a blocking cookie to block my visits in Metrics.

Submitted by James Binford on September 20, 2006 - 8:34pm in

I thought I was having a banner day when I took a look at my stats today! It came to pass that I was the only IP address listed for most of the visits.

Is there a way to block my own visits? Where would I find a blocking cookie if there is one?

Otherwise I could set a "refresh" code to my blog and shoot to the top of the rankings! Of course I would not do that, but who else is doing that to get better rankings? Just a thought.

 Obsessing Over Numbers

Submitted by Chris Garrett on September 1, 2006 - 11:28am in

Stats, numbers, high scores, weight lifting, golf handicap ... the number doesn't matter, it's how well you improve.

I am hesitant to link to the post that inspired me to write this. Unfortunately the original thread is one of those name-calling-mud-slinging-blog-punch-ups that do nobody any good, least of all the readers. Inside the comments though there were one or two intelligent quotes, some sanity in a sea of bs.

The argument was about one party mentioning in passing their headline traffic figure and the other party calling them out on it. Party A obviously wanted to make an impression while basing the figure on a supportable stat taken from their (comprehensive) suite of measurement tools. And we all know how much stats packages can vary in their assessment. Fair enough right? Well the other guy decides he sees a flaw and uses other (dodgy) measures to point out what he considers ... uh ... an inaccuracy.

Lighten up guys! Web stat numbers matter when

  1. You are comparing your performance against your own performance
  2. You are attracting advertisers or considering advertising

They are not for competitors (regardless of if they consider you a competitor or not) to use as a club to beat you with and are not to be taken as gospel. There isn't an IRS of web traffic, you do not need to be accurate down to the Nth visitor.

Concern with others traffic figures smacks of insecurity.

  • Where is your traffic relative to last month, last year?
  • What makes traffic increase, go down?
  • Is there anything that looks promising that we could do more of?
  • What aren't we doing that might work?
  • How are we viewed outside of the echo-chamber?

Just like at the gym, it is your own performance you need to be concerned with, not the guy on the next rack who looks like Arnie.

 Off the Beaten Web2.0 Track

Submitted by Nick Wilson on August 24, 2006 - 7:08pm in

Matt Cutts is declaring today "Break out of your rut and play with a Web 2.0 start-up” day. There are a few interesting companies on the list, but none moreso than..... wait for it.....

So at the risk of inviting a self promo hell thread, lets join in and list a few lesser known web2.0 companies worth a look..

 Interesting Challenge for API Programmers

Submitted by Nick Wilson on August 24, 2006 - 3:45pm in

This post by Chopianissima caught my attention today. I think there's an opportunity for some enterprising programmer to make a big splash by creating a widget like this with the Metrics API.

And what's more, Chris is right (first comment), it IS easy to do.

LifeDev Describes Reddit Effect Using Metrics

Submitted by Nick Wilson on August 10, 2006 - 8:20am in

I noticed some traffic coming in via an interesting post on the Reddit effect (a social bookmarking site akin to Digg), and noticed that they were using Performancing Metrics to analyze the traffic data.

I use Performancing Metrics to handle my blog analytics. It’s really robust and easy to set up, not to mention it’s free. I was able to break down my traffic statistics by the hour.

Its an interesting read, and Reddit though not as newsworthy (clearly not trendy enough for fickle digirati...), seems to be sending a lot of traffic to sites that make it's homepage..

 Metrics Blank Page Bug Fixed

Submitted by Nick Wilson on July 24, 2006 - 5:01pm in

As pointed out but quite a few members, if you were not logged in, and hit your metrics page, you just got a blank page. We think we've fixed this now, and would appreciate it if any further oddities since our recent system upgrade are reported here.

Now when you go to your metrics page, and are not logged in, you should be taken to the login page.

Thanks everyone.

 Metrics Signup Bug Fixed

Submitted by Nick Wilson on July 22, 2006 - 10:20am in

Just to let you know, that the bug reported by several users that was causing a blank page to appear instead of content after a Metrics account was activated should now be fixed.

I have tried the following, and all appears well:

  • Sign up as new user
  • Go to the /metrics page and hit "Activate Performancing Metrics"
  • Get the "add a blog" page directly after.

If anyone has any further trouble, please report it here, and please include as much detail as possible -- really, go to town on the details, "it doesnt work" just isnt that helpful :)

Apologies for the inconvenience folks, and thanks to those members that reported and described the issue.

 PMetrics WordPress Plugin Wishlist?

Submitted by Dave Reid on July 20, 2006 - 4:33pm in

I'm scrapping what code I had for the PMetrics WordPress plugin v0.4 (don't worry, it wasn't that much progress) and I'm focusing on a complete redesign for an official 1.0 version of the plugin. Before I get further into development, I wanted to ask what features you, the users, would like to see included in the plugin. What I'm planning:

  • Subversion repository to help me better organize changes and development (maybe host at wp-plugins.org once they get their domain expiration issues sorted out?)
  • A project management page where end users can submit bug reports and request features (Trac, FlySpray, Drupal Project Module, Eventum, Mantis, phpBugTracker, ?)
  • Improving the sidebar widget
    • Displaying your BlogRank
    • Graphs
    • More detailed information (especially on individual post pages)
  • Displaying metrics in your WordPress dashboard
  • RSS tracking for those of you who don't use Feedburner redirection of your RSS feed
  • Automatic detection/matching of the domain when you set up your Metrics at Performancing and option to redirect to correct domain (with or without 'www') so no metrics are missed
  • On install, checks your blog's template to make sure you don't already have the Metrics code inserted yourself and that the plugin will be able to insert the code using the wp_footer hook.

Seems pretty good? It'll take some time, but I'm starting to look for a more office-oriented job rather than the restaurant I'm working at - it tends to drain me out and I don't get much time to work on outside projects. If you'd like some input or just want to feedback, comment away! Remember, you're still more than welcome to sign up for the PMetrics announcement mailing list as well.

 BlogRank Gets All Tagged Up

Submitted by Nick Wilson on July 11, 2006 - 9:08am in

Two weeks ago we launched the BlogRank Top 100 List, and it's been a fun way to track and discover blogs using Performancing Metrics, our Pro-grade analytics package for blogs. We wanted to extend that list though, and be able to discover new blogs by tag, so after a little late night coding, I'm pleased to introduce you to The BlogRank Tag Cloud.

Aswell as the cloud, you can now see the tags of each blog ranked by BlogRank just under the title of their listing both in the top 100 and any of the hundreds of tags pages. With around 12,000 blogs being tracked, there's quite a lot to discover, and it's a fun way to find new blogs and generally meander along the tag trail of links in the system.

Men In Aprons

By far the best discovery of the morning for me was finding a recipe for hot peanut sauce on the wonderful Men in Aprons blog under the cooking tag. Gotta love that name eh?

Hope everyone has fun with this, and it proves useful. Any suggestions, feedback or bugs can be posted here and will be gratefully received....

Enjoy

UPDATE: There was a minor glitch for an hour or so earlier, thanks to Markus that's been fixed now.
