Social Networks - Aggregation and Content Management for the Semantic Web

Submitted by webmissile on November 9, 2007 - 3:20pm in

SEMANTIC EYE (SEYE) see what you've been missing

new seo softwareVideo (Flash)

web 3.0 content management system

The 'Brain' acts as the central control module and event management center. 'Tagging' (annotation or web site scrape) is performed here, a timeline may be created. From this point, SEYE is 'training', the system 'remembers' and the protocol module is consulted, recommending free or automated navigation.

Semantic Web Interface | Ontology

For our purposes, the MindMap (Brain) is a start point and an end point, it can have branches and may contain annotations or website scrapes. You may apply any rules you wish to its construction, for example, I tend to put 'things to do' in a cloud on the right and 'things to think about' in a cloud on the left. It is an Ontology. 'Lenses' may be applied to illuminate data, facilitate protocol etc. there are many planned options.

The Semantic Field (TagCloud) is configurable, it shares the Ontology/s and can be a control point for aggregation (RDF and non-RDF), the reasoner and the xml tree (publishing), it is a Content Management and Aggregation System. Ontology's may be loaded and unloaded, modified, shared and compared.

There is a Live portal to the tool on the website also.

We have progressed considerably from this phase, Lens Development, Quality Control of data and integration. Delays in committing this all-consuming research phase into the MindMap are unfortunate. We intend to improve documentation and maintenance of the MindMap in the coming weeks.

Semantic Web brings challenges for SEO

Submitted by webmissile on October 5, 2007 - 3:08pm in

“I think the ‘elephant in the room’ for SEO’s is that the semantic web brings more technology into the picture, you are exporting and importing data with a myriad of ways to operate on that data; There are simply more hooks and ladders. Our focus is of course on relevance; being found for the right reasons, which implies (in terms of the semantic web) inference layers and other filtering mechanisms.”

“Engineering web presence in the semantic web takes expertise ranging from artificial intelligence to the zitgist repository. We hope to see more people arrive on scene as qualified semantic web engineers. We all benefit from the new ideas, except for perhaps the search engines. The main flaw IMHO with current search engines is they presume to know what you want, the semantic web is a bit gentler about things as it offers relevant suggestions to help you decide.”

 Semantic Web Apps

Submitted by webmissile on August 31, 2007 - 6:29am in

Folks,

I notice that a lot of people look at the forum and admittedly, the content there is sparse.  Primarily because I added this forum for you, my visitors, to exchange ideas or ask questions.

One of the largest tasks around here is making sense of the thousands of proposals for the semantic web.

So I thought I would try to kick something off in the way of an assignment for you.  I will start by giving you 2 of my favorite links:

Advanced Knowledge Technologies
Sweet Tools (SemWeb)

This will keep anyone who is interested in applications for the semantic web busy for quite a while.

I would like to hear about your experiences with some of these products.  I personally have looked over many of them so maybe I or one of the staff can help with questions you might have.

It's a big job sorting this stuff out.  Let's put our heads together.

 SEO is Dead

Submitted by webmissile on August 8, 2007 - 7:54am in

I’ve been reading various articles that make this claim lately and to some extent, I believe it is true. I don’t think it is time to abandon Organic Search strategies altogether but it is certainly time to consider some new methodologies. While we use ‘conventional’ SEO software packages everyday, we’ve come to rely on new web solutions, many are demonstrations of Semantic Web Technologies. Probably the most impressive offering is the OpenLink Software suite . There is a great demonstration of the OAT API and SPARQL from OpenLink that we use often, the OpenLink . We use the SVG graph feature to see how we can improve the way our linkage looks to Web 3.0 services.

We also consult the Semantic to improve our machine readability and is an essential part of our keyword discovery cycle. We develop tools ‘in house’ that compliment these technologies because we believe Web 3.0 is upon us. The interesting thing for us is that you hear so little about it in SEO circles, instead it’s the same old story, beg for links and work your meta tags. Admittedly, we are talking about emerging technologies and the final cut is far from complete but the movement towards xml and xslt seems to have gained momentum recently and we are finding new and useful transforms almost every day. Some web 2.0/3.0 methods are kinda messy, for example xFolk and eRDF and some are nice and clean like OPML auto-discovery and xslt’s.

I guess the best way to bring folks who are not familiar with ‘the revolution’ up to speed would be to recommend that you have a look under the hood of our home page; , go ahead, scrape the page. There, we demonstrate how FOAF, Dublin Core, OPML Auto-discovery, GRDDL and other machine readable formats can be used with HTML/XHTML. In many cases, it is as simple as calling a transform. In the beginning, we did most of it by hand, then we discovered Virtuoso which appears to tackle just about any machine readable format you can think of … effortlessly.

I know there are a lot of acronyms in this entry, this was intended as a top level document. We will drill down on these technologies in future installments and we will even discuss the Ontology project. For now, lets say that we rely on organic search to drive traffic Today but Semantic Interlinking is taking shape and makes proper sense in the effort to bring relevancy to web search.

For those who haven’t quite made the paradigm shift yet … we are just advocating a balance between human readable and machine readable web content, this idea is not new, consider meta tags as the first attempt at description, then think about how web services can improve the way interested people can find your web site.

To sum up, SEO is dying, there is no question of that, perhaps it is not quite dead yet but the web has the capability of discovering itself and Search Engines should take heed that their services will no longer be required one day. Unless your practicing SEO trickery, a short term strategy at best, there is great promise of relevancy for the future of web search.

Our advice is as always … offer real value, be honest with your site descriptions, take steps to ensure that your visitors find what they were looking for when they arrive … and embrace some new methods to expose your content to ‘the machine’.

 Tag Cloud Generator

Submitted by webmissile on July 14, 2007 - 4:57pm in

Tag Cloud Generator

We decided to make our Tag Cloud Generator available to everyone. It is actually just the base for a number of cool Web 2.0 SEO (XSEO) projects we are working on. Now with xFolk Microformatting so it is ping-able (Pingerati etc.).

'Out of the box' your tag clouds will link to Technorati but here are some ideas:
If you have a Wordpress Blog, perform a Search and Replace (using wordpad) on the html code, replace 'http://technorati.com/tags/' with 'http://yourdomain/yourblogdirectory/search/'. Now the tag cloud indexes your blog.

Here is another cool idea: Search/Replace 'http://technorati.com/tags/' with 'http://www.touchgraph.com/TGGoogleBrowser.php?start=', your tag cloud will then access the touchgraph tool for visual Google relationships.

These are just a few ideas to get you started, you can modify the html tag cloud code anyway you like. If you enjoy your new cloud, please consider linking back to RELAX SEO Services with the Anchor Text "Innovative SEO Tools and Training"

You can find the Tag Cloud Generator here: Innovative SEO Tools and we suggest you have a look around the site because we have a bunch of cool stuff for you to enjoy.

 semantic web seo (XSEO)

Submitted by webmissile on July 10, 2007 - 6:29pm in

Why register for our Blog? We have many exciting projects ongoing at RELAX SEO Services. Particularly, the SEO Ontology Project provides a framework for SEO problem solving in ‘Semantic’ Web space. When you register, you can request access to the wiki and contribute your ideas.

SEO MindMap to the rescue!: Fortunately we developed the XSEO MindMap. As I have stated before, it is our compass, roadmap and rear view mirror … but it is also an excellent starting point for the SEO Ontology project.

For those of you who subscribe to the feed, you know that I have issues with the proliferation of ancient SEO paradigms, they simply do not apply for Today’s Search Engine (Social Engine) efforts. The Semantic Web proposals go ‘hand in hand’ with SEO (XSEO) methodology … the focus here is on relevance, accurately describe your site, export in SemWeb formats, and you will see what I mean. I am not altogether against the so called SEO guru’s, when they talk about keyword research most of the information is still valid. It is all in the implementation.

A history: I do apologize for the sporadic posts, we are in research mode and cannot always keep pace with our documentation efforts, we are committed to open research but often we are not staffed to explain the details in a timely manner. We have a policy of openness and will always (eventually) publish our research. The Ontology is a better method than the MindMap in many ways and it is possible that in the future, we may forego the XSEO MindMap and just provide everything in ‘.OWL’ format.

The deliverables: We intend not only to provide the Ontology but a DBin ‘brainlet’ as well.

Topics coming soon: Our experience with Gnowsis, eRDF, Protege and Eclipse/Jena. We plan to describe in detail how we use these tools in our everyday SEO.

Not a client? Perhaps you should consider joining the MOST forward thinking SEO community in existence, we smash conventional ideas about SE placement. Hey - it’s great that you have paid an SEO for traffic and they have made your stats look lovely - but how many visitors actually purchased something?

 3 Quick SEO Tips

Submitted by webmissile on July 2, 2007 - 4:50pm in

Folks,

This is gonna be quick ’cause I have a lot of work to do. Our subscriptions have really grown and I want to at least give you something …

1. Organize your bookmarks! When the time comes, you’ll understand why this is so important, in fact, create a bookmark file so you can edit with visual notepad or the editor of your choice.

2. Blog! If your not currently Blogging, then start right now. I mean RIGHT NOW! OK, that’s not too exciting but what are you exporting in your Blog? I recommend that you export unAPI or SIOC. Don’t know what this means? Do yourself a favor and go find out, it’s beyond the scope of this little entry.

3. Investigate the Semantic Web. Everything you thought you knew about SEO is about to change. ‘Keywords’ will become just that … ‘Keys’, not some algo hack that makes a guess at your query but what you really wanted and asked for.

We are working on a more complete document and it will be available at some point. We try to keep the SEO MindMap up to date but it takes away from the constant research we are conducting. This is just a little help to keep you going.

Not a client? Well it seems that even those high priced Big Guys are totally missing the boat - sure they can generate traffic but our goal is to deliver visitors who were converted before they even arrived at your page.

 xFolk Cloud v0.5 beta released

Submitted by webmissile on June 20, 2007 - 7:49pm in

Guys,

We have (as usual) been really busy around here, what with new releases and new tools, nobody is getting much sleep. First, I wanted to announce the new version of the xFolk Cloud Generator v0.5 (I think you’re gonna like it) … but we’ve also added some new tools. We also have some new alliances that continue to make us stronger.

I wasn’t going to do this but … here is a bit of a brain dump from the think factory here. We think that ‘Tagging’ is like ‘Candy Cigarettes’, A way to get people smoking/thinking ‘Classification Theory’, we know that the only real way to SEO nowadays is RELEVANCE RELEVANCE RELEVANCE, and there are just too many flaws in Tagging to ensure a lasting value. Semantic Inter-linking will most likely rule the day … like a localized phone book … you subscribe to the cloud and have your info on tap. If you don’t know about SIOC (semantic web) well, your reading the wrong Blog, best you find some SEO guru who will tell you that ‘on the page SEO’ is out and begging for links is ‘in’.

‘On the page’ is back stronger than ever - but perhaps not the way most SEO’s think - I won’t ‘give away the store’ here but it simply depends on what you are doing with your ‘on the page’ optimization, yes, Meta’s won’t get you very far anymore but if you are a client of ours - then you know how to optimize your ‘on the page’ so you are guaranteed participation in the ‘new web’.

Yes, it is a new web, the fixes are in to correct the failures of the past. I would be so bold as to say that search as we know it is a joke (and just getting funnier everyday). We do care about Organic Search for all the obvious reasons but we have always cared more about conversion and you just ain’t gonna convert someone who arrived by mistake.

I guess if you stay tuned to this channel I will continue to accidentally slip a bit of cutting edge Strategy … it seems none of the other SEO’s are talking about it … but things have changed so dramatically in this field, that you can just throw your old SEO howto books away.

We stay busy … so you can have a leisurely day.

 xFolk Cloud v0.4 beta

Version 0.4 Beta Released!

The Ultimate Web 3.0 SEO Tool

Generate Microformat Tags (xFolk) quickly and easily, then display them on your website with a beautiful xFolk Cloud.

What is Microformating?
Microformating is a method of decentralized Tagging ... see all those silly icons at the bottom of this page? Are you tired of visiting dozens of social networking sites to bookmark your favorite pages? Read about it

Microformating does away with all that. With just one ping, your pages are not only sent to all services that support Microformatting (and the list is growing daily), but ping routing provides continuous monitoring for updates to your pages ... much like RSS!

There are things on this page that you will not see unless you have the Firefox Microformat extensions installed. There are also many Social Networking SEO (XSEO) functions that you cannot perform until you install them.

Check it Out!

Some theory behind the xFolk TagCloud Generator - relaXSEO.com

Submitted by webmissile on May 31, 2007 - 3:16am in

Folks,

It seems that a lot of people simply didn’t ‘get’ our last Web 2.0 SEO tool. So … I thought I would go into some of the theory behind it. First, We think that Pingerati and ‘decentralized tagging’ makes a great deal of sense, ping routing is a good way to deal with upgraded non-rss content, many sites like ours make a ton of changes to the HTML but we find that those are slow to propagate, while our blogs move fast over the web. The option is to go the feedburner route for your content and that is a good choice … If you have the kind of content that folks want to subscribe to. Now that might seem like a dumb comment … of course you need content where people want to subscribe; BUT what if you are reporting results/corrections of tests basically in realtime? Things like “oops, that didn’t work so well” or “whoa! this is a pretty good trial so far”. Unless you have never made a content mistake, you’ve seen your uncorrected content out there with no way to change it. While ping routing won’t let you change it, it is a better paradigm for those circumstances.

If you are one of many running around tagging your content to/for multiple sites then you know that it is a pain. That is why there is a rush from sites like onlywire and wink designed to help you multi-tag across many sites. Still xFolk and pingerati seem to us to handle this issue better.

Next, in old SEO, the idea was to keep your targeted keywords to a minimum, to keep the energy of that term high and not dilute it with other keywords. In decentralized or tagging in general, the more search terms you have, the more ways people can find your content and still be pretty sure it is what they are looking for.

The idea behind the xFolk - TagCloud generator is first, to make it easy to add (minimal) microformatting (xFolk) to your site, we suggest you use as many terms as you can (see the difference?).

Finally, it is one of the easiest TagCloud generators to use that we have seen if all you want is a pretty TagCloud to Web 2-a-fy your site. You get both great tools in one - and there is another added bonus if you just want to create simple tags for your site. Either we are ahead of our time or just insane, we don’t know yet.

 xFolk Tag generator

Submitted by webmissile on May 22, 2007 - 9:34pm in

Another Web 2.0 SEO Innovation from RELAX SEO Services: The xFolk (Microformat or decentralized Tagging) TagCloud Generator.

The objective was to develop an easy way to xFolk enable web pages, while it is not necessarily difficult (after you have poured through pages of technical documentation) to implement decentralized Tagging, still you were left with nothing fancy - just tags that were invisible to most. This project resulted in an easy and beautiful way to enable Microformating (minimal) for your website.

All those silly icons at the bottom of this and most blog pages inspired us to investigate the xFolk project; why should we visit several Social Networking websites in order to get our ‘Socialmeters’ growing?

Decentralized Tagging didn’t just seem like a good idea, it was the only idea that really made any sense and that is what xFolk does.

We are busy working on other projects in support of the Microformat proposals because we believe those guys got it right. So for now, suffice it to say that our tool is a terrific way to get Web 2.0 (3.0?) ready. Check it out the Tool - xFolk Cloud: http://www.relaxseo.com/Tag-Cloud.htm and stay tuned for more great products from RELAX SEO Services.

Another SEO Blog (or is it?)

Submitted by webmissile on May 16, 2007 - 9:30pm in

Folks,

If you’ve been spying on us (and if you’re serious about SEO, you should be), you have probably noticed some changes that hint at our new ‘released’ technologies. Primarily we modified some of our descriptors. XSEO is now our acronym for “Exploratory” SEO, this better reflects what we do at relaXSEO.com. Also we thought it best to think more in terms of “Social Engine Optimization“. While we have not abandoned the ‘old’ SEO methodologies entirely, we have positioned ourselves for Web 3.0 (or “Super Mega Web” as I like to call it).

What will the new web bring? We think it is a ‘no brainer’ … people want more relevant search results for their search terms. Keyword stuffing, cloaking, linkbait, it’s become the order of the day for most SEO’s and the result … it has harmed the integrity of SE’s like Google ™, they go to great effort to detect spam and try to keep the SERP’s relevant. I am sure they hate constantly policing against these techniques.

Well Folks, All that is about to change! If you are participating in these deceptive methods … you’re gonna get buried real soon! Here is our recommendation: Be honest (duh), accurately describe your site, if people are interested in what you have they will come, else they won’t (I don’t really need to tell you this; do I?). Yes, this puts more pressure on you to develop unique offerings - add more value than before and consider your prospective customers needs carefully. It’s hard work but the truth is, it is the only way.

As for our new Technologies … you’ll need to become a client to gain access to those … but when we tell you what the geniuses in our think tank have recently developed, you WILL ask yourself; self (you might say); How do they think of this stuff? The answer is simple, we don’t sleep, we barely eat and our mouse hands are throbbing from the amount of surfing and research we do. In the end, you benefit from our tireless search for the future of SEO.

That is enough for now … as usual, you will find that there is a lot of great stuff on the site, we make you search for it … but it’s there. Have fun, enjoy … and you will learn something new if you take the time to explore.

Dave,

 w.blogger died - relaXSEO.com

Submitted by webmissile on May 12, 2007 - 4:32am in

I’ve seen a rise in our RSS subscription rate so I guess I am now obligated to keep these going. w.blogger is giving me some strange error and I didn’t want to take the time away from Tonights post to troubleshoot.

First, I read Today (or was it Yesterday) in SEOFeed (I think, I read so many articles in a day) that Web 2.0 was over and done, that it was time to get ready for Web 3.0. My first reaction was; we need a better name for it. Whatever it is, my thoughts are hopefully we completely move away from machines determining the relevance of web content, in other words I think Web 2.0 was a balance between bots and humans deciding what was cool … and hopefully Web 3.0 (aw c’mon can’t we call call it ’super mega web’ or something) will be a purely people driven thing. I really like BlogBridge and think that tool is cutting edge stuff.

This brings me to the point where we were unsure if we should talk about this experiment, our results aren’t really in yet but it’s a bit of a ‘no brainer’. I’ll start here: Ready? While the RSS spec does contain … or tagging if you will, it is rarely used. My first shock was to see this at Amazon and in BlogBridge (BlogBridge also has rating) so I dug into the suggestions for RSS tagging and found this form [foo]. That makes sense for del.icio.us but I think the larger question is does generic tagging work ie. www.mydomain.com/tag/ rel=foo? This is one of the many things we’re testing and I promise the results shortly.

We do a lot of testing with Autodiscovery and see huge potential for the RSS extentions ‘category’ and ‘new’ … just look at what Amazon is doing and it should be pretty clear that XML-RPC and RSS can do it all, simply and elegantly.

I guess that’s all for now - we don’t get many comments so what the heck, why don’t you click and tell me I am full of it or something? Oh, this kinda shaped my view of Blogging and sharing our experiments … I saw Fishkin explaining that the reason they got started in the ‘Info’ part of SEO was because it was a struggle any other way. I agree, we don’t expect to compete with the big boys (have I mentioned recently that Bruce Clay is just a few blocks down the road from here) but perhaps a few folks will find our research interesting and spread the word. We are proud of our little think tank. I can speak for all of us when I say we love our work, we are [ex]-engineers so we thrive on the pressure.

Well, that’s our Blog for Today. Sure would be interested in your experiences with RSS-SEO.
